MODEL 221.0/1 as of 1.1.06 up to 31.8.06 with CODE (494) USA version

MODEL 221.0/1 as of 1.1.06 up to 31.8.06 with CODE (387) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system, USA/Canada

When the portable CTEL (A34/6) receives a call signal over the frequency switchover control unit (N96), over the portable CTEL antenna amplifier (A28/2) and over the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15) from the telephone and GPS roof antenna (A2/49), the calling party is shown in the portable CTEL display. This information is also transmitted to the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1). The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit forwards the call signal over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).

The COMAND controller unit receives the ringing tone, converts the signal into an audio signal and then forwards it to the audio speaker system.

The volume of an active audio source is reduced by 15 dB. If the call is accepted an active audio source is muted and the caller ID is shown in the portable CTEL display, in the COMAND display (A40/8) and in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).

The user can accept a call in the following ways:

Hands-free mode

When in hands-free, mode the user can accept a call as follows:

Voice input is performed using the 4 microphones integrated in the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1). Voice output takes place via the audio speaker system installed in the vehicle.

Private mode

In "private mode", the user can make a telephone call without the other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation. The "private mode" is only possible with a Bluetooth headset and is activated by operating a switch on the Bluetooth headset. The call is terminated by operating the switch on the Bluetooth headset again. You can switch between "private mode" and hands-free mode by operating the switch on the Bluetooth headset twice (within 3 s).
