The hands-free system microphone group is integrated in the inside rearview mirror unit (A67).

Task

The hands-free system microphone group converts sound waves into electrical signals and serves for:

Voice input for making telephone calls using the hands-free system
Voice input for making phone calls with Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) emergency call
Voice input in vehicles with voice control system (VCS)

Design

The hands-free system microphone group comprises 4 microphones.

Function except code (396) Linguatronic - English (US), except code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) or except code (498) Japan version

The hands-free system microphone group is connected with the UPCI control unit (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (N123/1) on vehicles without VCS

Function with code (396) Linguatronic - English (US) or with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

On vehicles with VCS the hands-free system microphone group is connected with the voice control system control unit (VCS) (N41/3) The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) control unit forwards the processed voice signals to the corresponding control units via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).

Function with code (498) Japan version

The hands-free system microphone group is directly connected to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3), because the telephone and VCS [SBS] functions are integrated in the COMAND controller unit.
