2.9.09

Switch off ignition, remove cover, bolt, unscrew nuts

Steps 1, 3 and 4

	Remove/install
	Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts		AH00.00-N-0001-01A
	Risk of injury caused by fingers being pinched or crushed when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, liftgates or sliding roof	Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.	AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
1	Switch off ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS [EZS] control unit	On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go: Press keyless go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it in a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 m).
2	Open engine hood and raise to vertical position	After closing the engine hood, check whether it locks properly; for this purpose, pull engine hood upward with a jerk.	AR88.40-P-1000GZ
3	Remove seal (9) in area of radiator cross member (8)
4	Remove expansion rivets (10) and cover (11)	Model 164.195
5	Unscrew bolt (12) and nuts (13)	Model 164.195

6	Remove bolt (1)		*BA62.30-P-1001-03B
7	Remove bolt (2)		*BA62.30-P-1001-03B
8	Disconnect electrical connectors (3) from signal horns
9	Disconnect electrical connector on radar sensor of intelligent cruise control	Only with code (219) Distronic (DTR).
10	Remove retaining clips (4)
11	Remove bolts (5)		*BA62.30-P-1002-03B
12	Remove expansion rivets (6)
13	Raise radiator cross member (8) slightly and unclip release cable from right-hand hood latch from retaining clamps (7)
14	Remove radiator cross member (8)
15	Remove lock pawl	Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8)
16	Remove retaining clips (7)	Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8)
17	Remove signal horns	Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8)
18	Remove distronic sensor (DTR) from intelligent cruise control	Only when replacing the radiator crossmember (8) and only for vehicles with code (219) Distronic (DTR). Previously mark installation position of distronic sensor (DTR) at the three adjustment bolts.	AR30.30-P-1010GZ
19	Install in the reverse order
20	Check function of hood latch, if necessary adjust lock pawl

21	Attach danger warning to radiator cross member (8)	Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8)
