	Remove/install
	Risk of injury  caused by body parts being jammed or crushed. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system	Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.	AS42.46-Z-0001-01A
	Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing  when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension	Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary. 	While working on the rear axle, care must be taken to ensure that the surface of aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected
Installation	Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.
1	Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.	Vehicles with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS: Select menu item "SBC Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Deactivate 'SBC' system". Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom. STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system

9	Detach propeller shaft (106) from flange on rear axle center assembly (50)	Flexible disk remains on propeller shaft.

10	Detach fitting sleeves of flexible coupling on flange of rear axle center assembly (50)		AR41.10-P-0050-09DA
	Prepare drift for loosening fitted sleeves in flexible couplings.		WF58.50-P-4110-01A
11	Remove the bolts from the propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a) and remove the rear part of the propeller shaft (106)	Installation:  Do not tighten the bolts of the propeller shaft center support bearing until you have secured the flexible coupling to the rear axle differential (50).

12	Detach brake cables (86) from brackets (86a, 86b) on rear axle
13	Unhook brake cables (86) at automatic cable slack adjuster of parking brake.		AR42.20-P-0525T
14.1	Remove rear brake pads	Except model 211.076/077/276/277 Use hook to suspend brake caliper from vehicle to reduce loads on brake hose and avoid destroying brake hose.	AR42.10-P-1700R

19	Detach rear axle carrier (1) from front of frame; to do this, unscrew bolts (1a)		*BA35.10-P-1001-01E
20	Lower rear axle carefully	When lowering the rear axle carrier (1), make sure that the fuel tank (18) is not damaged by the bolts (2a, 2b) and the filler hose (17) is not damaged.
21	Unclip linkage (3) of level sensor on stabilizer bar (77).
22	Detach stabilizer bar (77) from left and right link rod (6k)		*BA32.20-P-1002-04G
23	Detach left and right stabilizer bar mount (77b) from rear axle carrier (1)		*BA32.20-P-1003-04G
24	Remove stabilizer bar (77) to the right
25	Check condition of air springs (41).	Vehicles with AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension), code 489	AR32.22-P-1500-05T
26	Install in the reverse order
27	Check oil level in rear axle center assembly (50) and correct if necessary	In order to avoid damage to the rear axle center assembly, it is absolutely essential to follow the work procedure and the Specifications for Operating Fluids.	AR35.31-P-0520-03I
28.1	Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS	Vehicles with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS: Select "Initial startup after repair"/"Remove/install brake pads" menu item. Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom. STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system
	Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work	Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.	AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
28.2	Press the brake pedal several times until the brake pads contact the brake disks	Vehicles with Adaptive Brake (ABR) Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
