Selecting telephone antenna, function

A Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) antenna is necessary for transmitting the TELE AID emergency call telegram (TELE AID emergency call or telediagnosis), for establishing the voice connection and for making conventional telephone calls. For normal telephone calls, the telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (model 211.0) or the telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 211.2) (up to 31.5.06), or the telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (as of 1.6.06) is used for this purpose. This antenna can be damaged in the case of an accident (e.g. rollover). The antenna could also have another defect. TELE AID emergency call or TELE AID telediagnosis is no longer possible then. To ensure that this never occurs, the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and the emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) are additionally installed. These are located at a crash-safe location and are only used when required.

For an emergency call, the telecommunications control unit (N112) checks the signal level of the telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (model 211.0) or telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 211.2) (up to 31.5.06), or the telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (as of 1.6.06). If this is not sufficient, the level of the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) is checked.

The antenna with the higher signal level is used for the radio connection (see structogram).
