TELE AID emergency call system

If a driver has an emergency in a remote area, a service engineer can obtain an overview of the status of the vehicle interior using the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) and obtain appropriate assistance. A Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) emergency call can be triggered automatically or manually.

Manual emergency call

A manual emergency call can be placed at any time. The manual emergency call is made by operating the SOS switch (S93/3s1) marked "SOS". It is integrated in the overhead control panel control unit (N70). The SOS switch (S93/3s1) is read in via a discrete line by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4). The switch must be operated for more than 0.5 sec. for manual activation.

The red LED flashes for the duration of the emergency call. Subsequently an emergency call is immediately placed to the nearest emergency call center.

Automatic alarm call

An automatic emergency call is possible with "circuit 15R ON". Automatic crash detection is carried out by the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) receives the crash information by means of a digital crash signal from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) and also (redundant) via the Controller Area Network Bus class B (interior) (CAN-B). If an accident occurs an emergency call is placed automatically. The severity of the accident that is detected is unimportant. In case of crash deployment the red LED flashes for the duration of the emergency call.

The following data is automatically transmitted in an SMS emergency call:

Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) data
Phone number
Vehicle data (e.g. circuit status)
Crash information (severity of accident), only for automatic emergency calls
Position data
Vehicle direction and speed

The user can now talk to the emergency call center on the telephone. The connection is deactivated by the emergency call center when the call is complete. The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) deactivates the emergency call request after 5 unsuccessful attempts for both manual and automatic emergency calls.

A TELE AID emergency call may only be triggered in emergencies. Infringements are a punishable offense.
