Removing/installing the end cover - AR01.40-P-8913GZ (ML500)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the and position the four support plates below the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Remove automatic transmission   AR27.10-P-0500GZ
2 Remove driven plate   AR03.30-P-8001GZ
3 Remove the end cover (1). IMPORTANT Pry off end cover (1) carefully at both marked points with a slanted screwdriver (arrows).
IMPORTANT The crankshaft sealing ring (3) must always be replaced when the end cover (1) is removed.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.40-P-1004-01C 
IMPORTANT Notes on application of sealant to end cover with radial shaft seal   AH01.40-P-1000-06A
    Sealant *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
4 Replace front crankshaft radial seal (3) IMPORTANTInstallation:  when pressing the end cover (1) onto the crankcase, check the position of the fitted sleeves (2)! AR03.20-P-3063GZ
5 Install in the reverse order    
6 Check engine oil level and correct if required. NOTES The vehicle must be positioned horizontally on the wheels, otherwise false measurements occur. AR18.00-P-3035-01GZ
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the running engine Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

7 Conduct engine test run and check the engine for oil leaks NOTES In the event of oil loss determine and eliminate cause, otherwise malfunctions, transmission damage, and serious environmental pollution may occur.
