Checking the engine valve timing - AR05.10-P-6858GZ (ML500)

	Removing
1	Remove cylinder head covers		AR01.20-P-5014GZ
2	Remove right combination valve
	Checking
3	Inspect timing	Inlet	*BE05.20-P-1001-02F
		Outlet	*BE05.20-P-1002-02F
	Camshaft code number and assignment		AH05.20-N-0100-01A
4	Position engine to a 40° crank angle after ignition TDC of cylinder 1	Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation until 40° marking on belt pulley/vibration damper is aligned with marking on timing case cover. Grooves on the camshafts must point in the direction of inner V. The engine must not be turned backwards; otherwise the timing chain can get jammed.
5	Check basic position of camshafts	Place locating plate (2) for the right camshaft flush on the right cylinder head and insert it into the keyway (6) of the camshaft. Proceed same way with the left camshaft in the left cylinder head.

		Set the basic position of camshafts	AR05.20-P-6020GZ
	Install
6	Fit right combination valve	Replace seal on combination valve.
