Measuring and adjusting wheel lock - AR40.20-P-0345AC

1 Perform wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200AC 
2 Turn the steering to full left lock IMPORTANT The maximum steering angle must always be measured relative to the inner wheel. The measurement must not be performed when the engine is running, as otherwise the hydraulic limiter will prevent the mechanical limit stop from being reached.  
3 Measure actual value for the maximum steering angle of the left front wheel IMPORTANT Read off the actual value for the maximum steering angle on the scale of the turnplate or on the display of the electronic measuring system. With standard tires the actual value may only deviate from the specified value within the tolerance.
If the maximum steering angle has to be re-adjusted:↓
Undo the locknut, turn the stop screw (5) in or out to match the required adjustment and tighten the locknut again.
Grease the stop screw (5) lightly.

4 Check the clearance between the left front tire and the trailing arm IMPORTANT There must be a distance of approx. 2 cm between the left front tire and the trailing arm. Irrespective of the specified value the maximum steering angle must be corrected if necessary, in particular for tires which do not correspond to standard tires.  
5 Turn the steering to full right lock    
6 Measuring the actual value for the maximum steering angle of the right front wheel IMPORTANT Procedure as for the left side.

7 Checking the clearance between the right front tire and the trailing arm IMPORTANT Procedure as for the left side.  
8 Check hydraulic limiter of steering gear and adjust if necessary NOTES The hydraulic limiter must engage shortly before the mechanical front axle stop, as otherwise impermissibly high forces will act on the steering mechanism.
For each change in maximum wheel angle, e.g. when fitting larger-sized tires, the hydraulic limiter of the steering gear has to be re-adjusted.
