  Check     
1 Check control unit versions of MOST components IMPORTANT Make sure that an up-to-date replacement is available for the MOST components to be replaced in order to be able to operate the COMAND. AN82.85-P-0003-01T 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
REMOVING Removal     
NOTES Notes on avoiding damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A
2.1 Remove all CDs from the CD changer IMPORTANT On vehicles with code 819 CD changer.  
3 Remove navigation CD and cassette from Audio 50 APS radio    
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
4 Disconnect battery ground line

IMPORTANT Notes on AGM battery AH54.10-P-0002-01A
5 Removing inside trim panel on side of cargo area IMPORTANT Left.
For vehicles without  one of the codes listed below:
  • 220, 404, 405, 433, 434, 475, 550 or 889 the trim is no longer required and must be replaced by a new one.
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR AR68.30-P-1180T
6 Remove covering under the left load compartment side inner paneling IMPORTANT For vehicles without  one of the codes listed below:
  • 220, 404, 405, 433, 434, 475, 550 or 889 the covering is no longer required and replaced by a new trim.
 
7 Remove hazard warning triangle    
8 Remove SAM control unit with fuse and relay box in luggage compartment IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors.

9.1 Remove audio gateway control unit IMPORTANT Only remove the audio gateway control unit if it has an MB number, stated in the table of the document listed in step 1.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove audio component center AR82.60-P-7605TA
10.1 Remove hands-free system control unit IMPORTANT Only remove the hands-free system control unit if it has an MB number, stated in the table of the document listed in step 1.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 380 Preinstallation for MB telephone "Cell phone", complete or code 382 with MB phone "Cell phone". AR82.70-P-8970TA
11.1 Remove car interface (portable CTEL) IMPORTANT Only remove the vehicle interface (portable CTEL) if it has an MB number, stated in the table of the document listed in step 1.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 380 Preinstallation for MB telephone "Cell phone", complete or with code 382 MB telephone "Cell phone" in armrest. AR82.70-P-8920TA
12.1 Remove CD changer IMPORTANT Only remove the CD changer if it has an MB number, stated in the table of the document listed in step 1.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 819 CD changer. AR82.64-P-7508T
13 Remove radio IMPORTANT The Audio 50 APS radio is no longer required.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR AR82.60-P-7502T
INSTALLING Install     
14.1 Install in the reverse sequence IMPORTANT Steps 11.1 up to 9.1.  
15 Extend fiber optic cable ring for components to be retrofitted NOTESRisk of breakage!  Do not kink fiber optic cable and do not route over sharp edges or bend in radii smaller than 25 mm. Tensile forces on inserts must not exceed 65 N. Do not squeeze fiber optic cable and do not compress with clamps or cable ties. AN82.64-P-0001-05T 
16 Retrofit wiring harness. IMPORTANT Wiring harness for navigation processor. AN82.61-P-0001-01TBB 
17 Install SAM control unit with fuse and relay box into luggage compartment

18 Retrofitting navigation processor in trunk IMPORTANT Vehicles with  one of the following codes:
  • 220, 475 or 889.
AN82.85-P-0001-01TA 
IMPORTANT Vehicles without  one of the following codes:
  • 220, 475 or 889.
AN82.85-P-0001-01TTB 
19 Cut out side paneling in trunk   AN68.30-P-0002-02TB
20 Install inner paneling on side of load compartment IMPORTANT Left.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR AR68.30-P-1180T
21 Install hazard warning triangle    
22 Install COMAND operating, display and controller unit IMPORTANT Wrap felt tape around vehicle on-board GPS antenna line of Audio 50 APS and strap down in center console (no longer required).  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR AR82.85-P-1000T
23.1 Install CD changer IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 819 CD changer.  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR IMPORTANT Only install the CD changer if it was removed in step 12.1. AR82.64-P-7508T
24 Connect ground cable to battery

25 Perform basic programming

26.1 Flash MOST components IMPORTANT Flash those MOST components that do not have the latest software release.

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
27 Perform retrofit variant coding IMPORTANT After completing the variant coding, perform a quick test and delete the fault memory. AN82.61-P-0001-05TB 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
28 Perform function check of COMAND    
29 Add special equipment to the vehicle data card and to the online vehicle data card IMPORTANT Enter code 527 COMAND APS with navigation and delete code 525, MB Audio 50 APS radio. Delete old radio identification number and enter new one.
