Remove/install lower wishbone - AR33.20-P-0510TW

MODIFICATION NOTES

11.12.06 Self-locking nut, upper wishbone follower joint to steering knuckle Model 211 *BA33.20-P-1018-01A 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by body parts being jammed or crushed. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS. AS42.46-Z-0001-01A
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1.1 Empty and fill front suspension strut using STAR DIAGNOSIS With Airmatic (semi-active air suspension), code 489  
2 Remove air filter housing with air ducts IMPORTANT Pull air filter housing vertically upwards off the rubber retainers on the cylinder head covers.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Rub the rubber retainers on the cylinder head covers and the sealing ring of the hot film mass air flow sensor in the air filter housing with liquid lubricant.

3 Attaching engine supporting frame and lifting engine   AR33.10-P-0100-01T

4 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary AP40.10-P-4050Z
5 Detach hexagon collar bolt of front axle shaft IMPORTANT On right or left front axle shaft. AR33.30-P-0620-05P 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, front axle shaft to front axle shaft flange *BA33.30-P-1003-02C 
6 Detach front axle brake caliper from steering knuckle IMPORTANTRemoval:  Hang up brake caliper to one side. The brake hose does not have to be unscrewed from the brake caliper. AR42.10-P-0070T
7 Pry supporting joint (4) off steering knuckle (5) NOTES After prying off at the supporting joint screw the nut on again, otherwise the steering knuckle may fall down and become damaged. Only unscrew the nut when the steering knuckle is removed. AR33.20-P-0440-01VM 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, supporting joint to steering knuckle *BA33.20-P-1017-01A 
SPECIAL TOOL Puller *203589003300
SPECIAL TOOL Thrust piece *140589006300
8 Press track rod joint out of steering knuckle (5).   AR46.40-P-0200-02IW
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to steering knuckle *BA46.40-P-1001-01E 
SPECIAL TOOL Thrust piece *140589006300
SPECIAL TOOL Puller *124589023300
9 Pry follower joint of upper transverse control arm off steering knuckle NOTES The follower joint must be removed, otherwise the follower joint is damaged by hard pulling or excessive angles. AR33.20-P-0500-01VM 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, upper transverse control arm follower joint to steering knuckle *BA33.20-P-1018-01A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Thrust piece *210589046300
SPECIAL TOOL Puller *202589023300
10 Detach link rod from torsion bar   AR32.20-P-0300-02VM
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, link rod to torsion bar *BA32.20-P-1002-02B 
11 Move steering knuckle (5) out of supporting joint (4)    
12 Remove steering knuckle (5) and move the right front axle shaft or left front axle shaft from the front axle shaft flange IMPORTANT Do not damage the boots of the front axle shaft and supporting joint.
IMPORTANT To loosen the front axle shaft, if necessary screw in the hexagon collar bolt a few threads again and hammer out the front axle shaft slightly using a rubber hammer.		  
13 Detach lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105T
14 Remove torsion bar (1) on front axle   AR32.20-P-0300TW
15 Loosen front shock-absorber strut (2) on lower transverse control arm (3) and secure   AR33.20-P-0500-06VM 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, shock-absorber strut to lower transverse control arm *BA32.25-P-1012-04B 
16 Detach lower transverse control arm (3) from front axle carrier NOTES The bolt (7) must not  be twisted. It is essential to counterhold the bolt (7) when loosening the nut (6). Otherwise, when the repair kit is fitted, the fixing lugs for camber adjustment and caster adjustment in the rubber mount are sheared off.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, lower wishbone to front axle carrier *BA33.20-P-1010-01A 
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Perform a wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200T
