Check and replace rubber boot - AR46.40-P-0400T

MODEL 211 (except 211.08 /09 /28 /29)

INSPECT Checking    
1.1 Remove bottom section of soundproofing Vehicles with diesel engines AR94.30-P-5300T
1.2 Remove engine compartment paneling Vehicles with gasoline engines AR61.20-P-1105T
2 Check bellows (11) NOTES Never check bellows by pressing in or around raised bead as this will damage bellows and eventually cause leaks.
IMPORTANT Perfect sealing of the bellows is absolutely vital for correct functioning of the rack-and-pinion steering, so perform the visual inspection as follows:
  • Raise vehicle at front axle.
  • Extend the bellows by turning the steering a onto left wheel lock or right wheel lock and check for damage (cracks, chafing marks and intrusions) in the process, install new bellows if necessary.
 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
3 Remove track rod (10)   AR46.40-P-0200T 
4 Unscrew lock nut (10f)    
5 Detach outer clamp (11b)    
6 Detach inner clamp (11a)   AR46.40-P-0400-01GH 
7 Pull off bellows (11) IMPORTANTInstallation with boot with diaphragm valve:  Push the boot onto the steering gear housing and position. AR46.40-P-0400-02CW
8 Install new O-ring (23k).    
9 Check steering rack and inner tie rod thrust joint for corrosion and play IMPORTANT If the steering rack is already corroded and the steering is leaking as a result, the rack-and-pinion steering must be replaced complete: ↓  
    Remove rack-and-pinion steering.
IMPORTANT If the ball joint is worn, replace the inside track rod: ↓
AR46.20-P-0600T 
    Remove inner tie rod with axial joint. AR46.40-P-0201T 
10 Install in the reverse order
