	Remove/install
	Risk of injury  caused by body parts being jammed or crushed. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by brake fluid spraying out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system	Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.	AS42.46-Z-0001-01A
	Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects.	Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.	AS00.00-Z-0002-01A

1	Release parking brake	Only if removing brake disk (61) on rear axle
2	Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.	Vehicles with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS: Select menu item "SBC Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Deactivate 'SBC' system". Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.
3	Remove brake disk	Do not detach brake hose, instead attach brake caliper to vehicle so that it is free of tension. Do not kink or tension brake hose, as otherwise it will be damaged.

4	Remove locking bolt (63) and remove brake disk (61)	If the parking brake drums are run in turn back parking brake adjuster. Otherwise the parking brake shoes may be damaged:
		See Adjust parking brake. Only replace brake disks (61) in pairs. Apply light coating of grease to interference fits of brake disks (61). Replace locking bolt (63). On 6-piston brake calipers note mark for direction of rotation (65)! The arrow must point in the direction of rotation of the wheel during forward travel.	AR42.20-P-0540TX

5	Check brake lining thickness and brake disks (61)	Only replace brake pads and brake disks (61) in complete sets if necessary.
	Check brake lining thickness		AP42.10-P-4253A
	Inspect condition of brake disks		AP42.10-P-4258TX
6	Check lining thickness and condition of parking brake shoe	When removing the brake disk (61) from the rear axle, if necessary: ↓
		Replace parking brake shoe.	AR42.20-P-0530TX
7	Install in the reverse order
8.1	Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS	Vehicles with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS: Select the menu item "SBC-Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Initial startup after repair"/"Replace brake disks". Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.
	Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work	Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.	AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
8.2	Operate the brake pedal several times until brake pads make contact with the brake disks (61)	Vehicles with Adaptive Brake (ABR) Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
9	Adjust parking brake	After installing brake disks (61) on rear axle	AR42.20-P-0540TX
10	Carry out brake test on the test stand		AP42.00-P-4290BA
