MODIFICATION NOTES

10.6.09 Changed tightening torque for bolt of front rubber mount of rear axle carrier to frame floor assembly. Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection and bolt M14x1.5 see *BA35.10-P-1001-01O 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   see AH54.00-P-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   see AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
1 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   see AR00.60-P-0100SX
2 Empty the rear suspension struts using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with AIRmatic  
NOTES Notes on AIRmatic   see AH32.22-P-1000-02SX
3 Remove rear wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   see AP40.10-P-4050SX
4 Remove exhaust system at flange connection Engine 272, 273, 275 see AR49.10-P-7100SX
Engine 642, 629 AR49.10-P-7100SXI
5 Detach propeller shaft from rear axle center assembly (50)   see AR41.10-P-0050-03SX
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Install propeller shaft on rear axle differential (50). see AR41.10-P-0050-04SX
6 Loosen fitting sleeves of flexible coupling on joint flange of rear axle differential (50) If fitted sleeves are firmly attached see AR41.10-P-0050-09SX
7 Remove covers of spring control arms Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection  
8 Tension rear springs Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection AR32.20-P-0200-06MB
9 Detach suspension struts from spring control arms, to do this unscrew bolts (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION see *BA32.25-P-1005-04L 
10 Clean electrical connector and its surrounding area at controller unit (A13)    
11 Remove cover (10) of electrical connector on controller unit (A13)    
12 Unlock electrical connector at controller unit (A13) separate and electrical line (9) from rear axle carrier (51)    
13.1 Detach rear axle level sensor from vehicle underbody Vehicles with AIRmatic AR82.10-P-0005SX
13.2 Unlock and separate electrical connectors (15) at right, left rear level sensors (B22/10, B22/7) Vehicles with Active Body Control (Code 487) only. see AR82.10-P-0005SY
14 Unclip manual release cable of controller unit (A13) from retaining clips on tank filler pipe IMPORTANT The release cable runs over the rear axle differential (50):  
See Detach/attach manual release cable. see AR42.20-P-0590-01SX
15 Detach brake calipers Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection see AR42.10-P-0080SX
16 Remove rear sections of underbody protection Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection and fire extinguishing system AR61.40-P-1000SXS
17 Remove left and right rear extinguishing agent distributor Vehicles with code (Z07) Top protection and fire extinguishing system  
18 Support rear axle on rear axle center assembly (50) using transmission jack and transmission platform    
19 Remove bolts (3, 4), remove stops (6) and SPECIAL TOOL screw in spacer bolts (01) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 221 without code (Z07) Top protection see *BA35.10-P-1001-01M 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 221 with code (Z07) Top protection see *BA35.10-P-1001-01O 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 221 without code (Z07) Top protection see *BA35.10-P-1008-01M
