Remove/install instrument panel - AR68.10-P-1000Q

MODIFICATION NOTES

21.1.04 Disconnect/connect/remove ground line from battery    
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install    
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts All models AH00.00-N-0001-01A
1 Completely pull out adjustable steering column and move downward.    
2 Remove fuse box on driver-side interior compartment   AR54.15-P-1310Q
3 Remove instrument panel bottom section on driver's side (2)   AR68.10-P-1505Q 
4 Remove instrument panel bottom section on passenger side (3) with glove compartment (16)   AR68.10-P-1508Q 
5 Remove paneling from A-pillar (4) on left and right   AR68.30-P-4050Q 
6.1 Remove cover at center console (5) Model 209 up to 31.5.04 AR68.20-P-2350Q 
7.1 Remove upper control panel control unit. Model 209 as of 1.6.04 AR54.21-P-1262Q
7.2 Remove control and operating unit Model 209 as of 1.6.04 AR83.40-P-6350QA
8 Remove center cockpit speaker with center nozzle cover (6) from instrument panel (1)   AR82.62-P-7833Q
9 Unscrew bolts (7) from center console reinforcement (8)    
10 Unclip instrument panel cover (1) and unscrew bolt (9) beneath SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 5
11 Unclip cover at bottom from steering wheel    
12 Unscrew bolts (10) from strut (11)    
13 Unscrew bolts (12) from steering column paneling IMPORTANT Steering column paneling is fastened with 4 bolts (12).  
14 Unscrew bolts (14) at top of steering column and bolt (13) at bottom of steering column IMPORTANTInstallation:  Position bolts (13, 14) and tighten bolts (14) first  
15 Unscrew bolts (17) at bottom on instrument panel (1)    
16 Remove bolts (15) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt of front passenger airbag unit to instrument panel mounting *BA91.60-P-1004-01A 
DANGER Risk of injury.  Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
17 Disconnect electrical connectors from electrical connectors at front passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4) and front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5) IMPORTANT Acquisition, transportation, storage, testing and assembly work should only be performed or supervised by properly trained personnel.  
18 Remove instrument panel (1) through passenger door opening IMPORTANT Helper required
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Route lines for center cockpit speaker through opening in upper center nozzle.
On vehicles with Parktronic system (PTS) code 220, guide lines for center instrument panel PTS warning system through opening in upper center nozzle.
 
19 Install in the reverse order    
20 Perform function check
