REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing/installing    
1 Activate Service mode in Tele-Aid emergency call system IMPORTANT Only for models 463.243/244/245/247/248/250/254/270 with Tele-Aid car phone emergency call system code ET2. AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and safety glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
2 Disconnect ground cable (10) on battery IMPORTANT Except model 463.248 with special protection version code 979. AR54.10-P-0003G
    IMPORTANT Model 463.248 with special protection version code 979, special protection version FB6 code ZS6, special protection version FB7 code ZS7, additional battery 100 Ah incl. cutoff relay code E26. AR54.10-P-0003PM

3 Remove air plenum chamber and water collector   AR83.10-P-9998GM
4 Remove dust shield (1)    
5 Disconnect electrical connectors (A) on ME control unit (N3/10) IMPORTANT Press plastic catch down and turn over locking arm.  
6 Remove glove compartment   AR68.10-P-1400GM
7 Disconnect module box/engine separation point (X35/26)    
8 Remove cover below right instrument panel   AR68.10-P-1520GM
9 Disconnect electric cables (4) onfront signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) (N10/1)    
10 Pull engine wiring harness out of body opening NOTES Do not damage wiring harness when pulling it out otherwise this may result in operational problems in the connected equipment.  
11 Connector for O2S sensor on the left, upstream of TWC (G3/3x1) and connector for O2 sensor on the right, upstream of TWC (G3/4x1).    
12 Connector for O2S sensor on the left, downstream of TWC (G3/5x1) and connector for O2 sensor on the right, downstream TWC (G3/6x1).    
13 Remove ignition coils IMPORTANT Only remove ignition coils from cylinders 5 to 8. AR15.12-P-2003A
14 Remove cover on jump-starting point (2)    
15 Unbolt electric cable of circuit 30 (3) on terminal block engine circuit 30 (X4/30)    
16 Remove ground line on starter    
17 Separate plug connection of automatic transmission (X22/2) on automatic transmission    
18 Unscrew bolt (13) and remove transmission output speed sensor (B49) IMPORTANTInstallation: 
Replace O-ring on transmission output speed sensor (B49).
 
19 Install in reverse order    
20 Deactivate service mode in TELE AID emergency call system IMPORTANT Only for models 463.243/244/245/247/248/250/254/270 with Tele-Aid car phone emergency call system code ET2. AR82.95-P-0005-03GR
21 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT STAR DIAGNOSIS
Stored faults which can result from cables being disconnected or from simulation during removal and installation or test work, have to be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work.
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect up STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
