The Parktronic system (PTS) is an electronic parking assist. For this process it assists the driver to estimate distances to objects in front of and behind the vehicle, particularly in blind areas.

The Parktronic system (PTS) only monitors the front area when driving forwards.

On vehicles with automatic transmission the Parktronic system (PTS) monitors the rear and front area when reversing and in transmission position neutral stage "N".

On vehicles with manual transmission the Parktronic system (PTS) monitors the rear and front area only when reverse gear is engaged (reversing).

Function conditions 

• Terminal 15 ON
• Selector lever position D, N or R on vehicles with automatic transmission
• Vehicle speed v ≤ 16 km/h

Function 

Detects the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle via the front bumper PTS sensor unit (A42) and rear bumper PTS sensor unit (A43) and passes it on to the Parktronic control module (N62). The Parktronic control module (N62) evaluates the sensor signal and either activates the PTS warning display, center of instrument panel (A44/4) or the PTS warning display, rear (A44/3).

One part of the warning indicator is assigned to each side of the bumper. The PTS warning display, rear (A44/3) and PTS warning display, center of instrument panel (A44/4) signal to the driver audibly and visually obstacles which are in the monitoring range.

The Parktronic system (PTS) is activated by switching on the ignition, a system self-test is then carried out.

Deactivation 

• The system can be switched off and on manually by the PTS OFF switch (N72/1s8) in the upper control panel control module (N72/1), feedback takes place via an LED in the PTS OFF switch (N72/1s8)
• Speed-dependent cutout (v18 ≥ km/h)
• Through selector lever position "P" on vehicles with automatic transmission
• Cutout of rear monitoring with trailer recognition (code (550) trailer hitch)

Data flow, Parktronic control module (N62) 

• Circuit 15 via the electronic ignition switch control module (N73)
• Parktronic ON/OFF via the PTS OFF switch (N72/1s8) and upper control panel control module (N72/1)
• Selector lever position (on vehicles with automatic transmission) via the electronic selector lever module control module (N15/5)
• Information on reversing (on vehicles with manual transmission) via the backup lamp switch (S16/2) and the front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1)
• Wheel RPM via the ESP and BAS control module (N47-5)
• Vehicle speed signal via the instrument cluster (A1)
• Trailer recognition via the 13-pin trailer hitch socket (X58) and the trailer recognition control module (N28/1)
• Day/ night recognition via the rain/ light sensor (B38/2) and the overhead control panel control module (N70)
• Warning indicator and warning signal via the PTS warning display, rear (A44/3) and PTS warning display, center of instrument panel (A44/4)
• Obstacle recognition via the front bumper PTS sensor unit (A42) and rear bumper PTS sensor unit (A43)
