B1501-19: (SAS) TROUBLESHOOTING DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Step	Inspection	Results	Action
1	PURPOSE: INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE FOR REAR PASSENGER CONNECTOR WARNING: Handling the component parts improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag and the pre-tensioner seat belt, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the component parts of the SAS air bag system. (Refer to AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Switch the ignition/main power OFF. Disconnect the negative battery terminal/negative lead-acid battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION in service information.) Disconnect the rear seat driver-side side air bag module connector. (Refer to SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Inspect the rear seat driver-side side air bag module connector. (Corrosion, damage, and disconnected pins) Are the connector and terminal normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform repair completion verification 1.
2	PURPOSE: INSPECT WIRING HARNESS (INCLUDING CONNECTOR/TERMINAL) BETWEEN REAR SEAT DRIVER-SIDE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE AND SAS CONTROL MODULE FOR MALFUNCTION Disconnect the following connectors. Clock spring (Refer to CLOCK SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Driver-side air bag module (Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Passenger-side air bag module (Refer to PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Driver-side knee air bag module (Refer to KNEE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Front seat driver and passenger-side side air bag modules (Refer to SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Driver and passenger-side curtain air bag modules (Refer to CURTAIN AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Driver-side far side air bag module Driver and passenger-side front seats (Refer to FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.) Driver and passenger-side front pre-tensioner seat belts (Refer to FRONT SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.) Driver and passenger-side rear pre-tensioner seat belts (Refer to REAR SEAT BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION in service information.) SAS control module (Refer to SAS CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) Inspect the applicable circuit. (See CIRCUIT INSPECTION .) (See CONNECTOR INSPECTION .) NOTE: Inspect the circuit while shaking the wiring harness between the rear seat driver-side side air bag module and the SAS control module. Is the circuit normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform repair completion verification 1.
3	PURPOSE: INSPECT REAR SEAT DRIVER-SIDE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE CIRCUIT AND OTHER AIR BAG MODULE CIRCUITS FOR SHORT CIRCUIT Refer to the wiring diagram and inspect for continuity between the following terminals and other air bag module/pre-tensioner seat belt terminals (vehicle wiring harness side). SAS control module terminal 2N SAS control module terminal 2Q NOTE: Inspect the circuit while shaking the wiring harness between the rear seat driver-side side air bag module and the SAS control module. Is there continuity?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location and perform repair completion verification 1.
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	PURPOSE: INSPECT DRIVER-SIDE SIDE AIR BAG MODULE FOR REAR PASSENGER Switch the ignition/main power OFF. Disconnect the negative battery terminal/negative lead-acid battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION in service information.) Connect the SAS control module connectors. Connect all the disconnected connectors other than the rear seat driver-side side air bag module connector. Connect a 2 ohm resistance between terminals A and B of the rear seat driver-side side air bag module connector (wiring harness side). Connect the negative battery terminal/negative lead-acid battery terminal. (Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION in service information.) Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on)/switch the main power ON (READY off or on). Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC .) Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Is the same DTC displayed?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Replace the rear seat driver-side side air bag module and perform repair completion verification 1. (Refer to SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.) (Refer to DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] in service information.)
Repair completion verification 1	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF VEHICLE IS REPAIRED Switch the ignition/main power OFF. Disconnect the negative battery terminal/negative lead-acid battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION in service information.) Disconnect the 2 ohm resistance. Connect the driver-side side air bag module for rear passenger connector. Connect the negative battery terminal/negative lead-acid battery terminal. (Refer to NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION in service information.) Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on)/switch the main power ON (READY off or on). Clear the DTC recorded in the memory. (See CLEARING DTC .) Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Is the same DTC displayed?	Yes	Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error. (See MALFUNCTION DIAGNOSIS FLOW [CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN)] .) If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1 again. If the malfunction is not resolved, replace the SAS control module, then go to the next step. Repair completion verification 1		No	Go to the next step.
Repair completion verification 2	PURPOSE: VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs ARE DISPLAYED Perform the DTC inspection. (See DTC INSPECTION .) Are other DTCs displayed?	Yes	Repair or replace the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Repair completion verification 2		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
