Passenger-Side Air Bag Module Removal/Installation
WARNING:
- Handling the passenger-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the passenger-side air bag module. - Switch the ignition off.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
- Remove the following parts:
- Dashboard under cover (See DASHBOARD UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Passenger-side decoration panel (See DECORATION PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Passenger-side front scuff plate (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Passenger-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Passenger-side lower panel (See LOWER PANEL DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY .)
- Passenger-side knee air bag module (See KNEE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM - US/CANADA/ISRAEL SPEC.] .)
- Passenger-side front heat duct No. 2 (See FRONT HEAT DUCT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Detach the clip (with clip).
- Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the stopper plate carefully, however do not remove it.
- Disconnect the passenger-side air bag module connectors.
- Remove the nuts.
- Remove the screws.
- Move the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure below and detach guides A from the air bag case while spreading the air bag case in the direction of arrow (1).
- Move the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow (3), (4) and detach guides B from the air bag case.
- Move the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow (5), and remove the passenger-side air bag module.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
- Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
- If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (Refer to DTC INSPECTION in the service information)
