Front Stabilizer Installation (Us)

CAUTION:
  • If the steering wheel rotates after the steering shaft and the steering gear under carriage are disconnected, the internal parts of the clock spring could be damaged. After disconnecting the steering shaft, secure the steering wheel using tape or cable to prevent it from rotating.
  • Install the front stabilizer being careful of the following so as not to decrease the functionality of the front stabilizer.
    • Do not apply grease to the stabilizer bushing and stabilizer bar contact area.
    • Verify that there is no dirt or oil on the stabilizer bushing and the stabilizer bar.
  • Wipe off any dirt or oil on the stabilizer bushing and the stabilizer bar.
  • Do not allow the dust boot of the front stabilizer control link to touch the body, the front shock absorber and coil spring, and the hand tool. Otherwise, the dust boot of the front stabilizer control link could be damaged.
  1. Install the front stabilizer bracket to the front stabilizer.

  2. After installing the front stabilizer bracket, verify that the positions of the front stabilizer bracket and the front stabilizer bushing are within the range shown in the illustration.

    H1: 7 mm {0.3 in} or less

    H2: 7 mm {0.3 in} or less

  3. Temporarily tighten bolts A and B shown in the illustration.

  4. Tighten bolt B.
  5. Tighten bolt A.
  6. Tighten bolt B.
  7. Install the hole cover No. 1 and hole cover No. 2. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  8. Install the front crossmember component. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  9. Assemble the intermediate shaft (lower side) to the steering gear and linkage. (See INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  10. Install the joint cover. (See INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  11. Install the splash shield. (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  12. Install the front deflector. (See DEFLECTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  13. Assemble the front lower arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. (See FRONT LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (US) .)
  14. Install the front stabilizer control link.

  15. Assemble the tie-rod end to the steering knuckle. (See TIE-ROD END REPLACEMENT (US) .)
  16. Install the following parts.
    1. Front undercover No. 1 (See FRONT UNDER COVER No. 1 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Front undercover No. 2 (See FRONT UNDER COVER No. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  17. Install the tunnel cover. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN L (US))] .) (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G (VIN M (US))] .)
  18. Install the front ABS wheel-speed sensor and the rubber as shown in the illustration.

  19. Install the wheels and tires. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
