Timing Chain Removal/Installation: Notes

WARNING:

Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, see FUEL SYSTEM .

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the dynamic chamber. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the ignition coils. (See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (MAZDA6 3.0L) .)
Remove the front drive belt. (See FRONT DRIVE BELT .)
Remove the P/S oil pump and bracket with the P/S pipe connected, and fix the P/S oil pump using a rope to prevent it from falling. (See POWER STEERING OIL PUMP (AJ) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the A/C compressor with the A/C pipe connected, and fix the A/C compressor using a rope to prevent it from falling.
Disconnect the generator, but do not remove it from the vehicle. After disconnection, fix the generator using a rope to prevent it from falling. (See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (3.0L) .)
Remove the drive shaft (RH). (See AXLE SHAFT (3.0L) .)
Remove the front crossmember. (See FRONT CROSSMEMBER .)
Remove the TWC (LH). (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the oil pan. (See OIL PAN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove in the order indicated in Fig 1.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
Start the engine and:
- Inspect for the engine oil, engine coolant, transaxle oil and fuel leakage.
- Verify the ignition timing, idle speed and idle mixture. (See IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION .) (See IDLE SPEED INSPECTION .) (See IDLE MIXTURE INSPECTION .)
Perform a road test.
