Engine Front Cover Removal/Installation - 3.0L: Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine coolant. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 3.0L .
  3. Remove the drive belt. See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
  4. Remove the fan and shroud. See COOLING FAN AND CLUTCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
  5. Remove the water pump pulley.

  6. Remove the bolts from the A/C compressor mounting bracket.

  7. Remove the bolts and position the power steering bracket and compressor aside.

  8. Disconnect the radiator lower hose at the water pump outlet.
  9. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal. See CRANKSHAFT FRONT OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT - 3.0L .
  10. Remove the oil pan. See OIL PAN BAFFLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
  11. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.

  12. Remove the engine front cover and the water pump as an assembly.
    • Remove the bolts.

  13. Remove and discard the front cover gasket.
