Automatic Transmission Removal/Installation: Notes

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the ATF. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT .)
- Remove the cross member bracket. (16-inch wheel model) (See CROSSMEMBER BRACKET REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the rear crossbar. (16-inch wheel model) (See REAR CROSSMEMBER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the exhaust system. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [BP] .)
- Remove the propeller shaft. (See PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
.)WARNING:
- Improperly jacking a transmission is dangerous. It can slip off the jack and cause serious injury.
- Remove in the order indicated in the table.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
- Add ATF to the specified level. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) REPLACEMENT .)
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Inspect the operation of the transmission range switch. (See INSPECTION OF OPERATION .)
- Inspect the operation of the selector lever. (See SELECTOR LEVER INSPECTION .)
- Carry out the mechanical system test. (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST .)
- Carry out the road test. (See ROAD TEST .)
