Diagnostic Procedure

ENGINE FLARES UP OR SLIPS WHEN UPSHIFTING OR DOWNSHIFTING - DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	Is line pressure okay? (See LINE PRESSURE TEST . )	Yes	Go to next step.
1	Is line pressure okay? (See LINE PRESSURE TEST . )	No	Repair or replace any defective parts according to inspection results.
2	Is shift point okay? (See ROAD TEST )	Yes	Go to next step.
2	Is shift point okay? (See ROAD TEST )	No	Go to No. 9 "ABNORMAL SHIFT ".
3	Inspect whether shift solenoids A and B are mechanically stuck. (See SOLENOID VALVES INSPECTION . ) Are both shift solenoids okay?	Yes	Inspect TCM terminal and shift solenoid terminals for bending, damage, corrosion, or loose connection. Also inspect shift solenoid ground condition. If all items are okay, overhaul control valve body and repair or replace any defective parts. If problem remains, replace or overhaul transmission and repair or replace any defective parts.
3		No	Replace shift solenoid. (See SOLENOID VALVES REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
4	Verify test results. If okay, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. If malfunction remains, inspect related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed. If vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace TCM.
