Diagnostic Procedure

ENGINE FLARES UP OR SLIPS WHEN UPSHIFTING OR DOWNSHIFTING - DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 Yes Go to next step.
No Repair or replace any defective parts according to inspection results.
2 Yes Go to next step.
No Go to No. 9 "ABNORMAL SHIFT ".

  • Inspect whether shift solenoids A and B are mechanically stuck.

    (See SOLENOID VALVES INSPECTION . )

  • Are both shift solenoids okay?
Yes Inspect TCM terminal and shift solenoid terminals for bending, damage, corrosion, or loose connection. Also inspect shift solenoid ground condition.
  • If all items are okay, overhaul control valve body and repair or replace any defective parts.
  • If problem remains, replace or overhaul transmission and repair or replace any defective parts.
No Replace shift solenoid.

  • Verify test results.
    • If okay, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
    • If malfunction remains, inspect related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
      • If vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.
      • If vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace TCM.
