Symptom Trouble Shooting

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The SAS control module has an on-board diagnostic function that flashes or illuminates the AIR BAG warning light to indicate trouble in air bag system. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) can be determined by AIR BAG warning light flashing pattern.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If AIR BAG warning light comes on for 6 seconds and then goes off, go to next step. If AIR BAG warning light comes on and stays on, or does not come on, perform appropriate symptom trouble shooting test. See SYMPTOM TESTS  table.
  2. If AIR BAG warning light begins to flash, count and record number of flashes. Refer to diagnostic trouble codes and determine malfunction. See AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC)  table. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and trouble shoot system.
