DtcSAS Unit Connector Poor Connection

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait more than one minute to allow back-up power supply to deplete. Access and check SAS unit harness connectors for improper connection. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector needs correct installation, install as necessary andgo to step  4.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect SAS unit connectors. Check short bar connecting terminals 2T and 2W, 2D and 2G, and 2AB and 2Y of SAS unit connectors. See Figure & Figure . If short bars are okay, and DTC 1 was retrieved as a present malfunction, replace SAS unit andgo to step  4. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If short bars are okay, and DTC 1 was retrieved as a past malfunction, go to next step. If short bar is damaged or bent, replace air bag wiring harness andgo to step  4.
  3. Check air bag wiring harness between ground and SAS connector, terminal 2Z for short to power supply or open circuit. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 1 was retrieved as a present malfunction, replace SAS unit and go to next step. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 1 was retrieved as a past malfunction, go to next step. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness and go to next step.
  4. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
