DtcRight Side AIR Bag Sensor System Malfunction

NOTE: On vehicles equipped without side air bags, DTCs 22, 25, 26, 32, 35, or 37 may be indicated concurrently. Diagnose the problem using the smallest DTC only.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . On vehicles equipped without side air bags, go to step  6. On vehicles equipped with side air bags, disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect SAS unit connector. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Access and disconnect right side air bag sensor. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Check wiring harness between SAS unit connector, terminal 1L and right side air bag module connector, terminal "A" (Blue wire), and between SAS unit connector, terminal 1J and right side air bag module connector, terminal "B" (Blue/Yellow wire), for short to ground, power supply or an open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring harness is okay, go to next step. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness andgo to step  7.
  3. Check wiring harness between SAS unit connector, terminal 1H and right side air bag module connector, terminal "C" (Blue/White wire), and SAS unit connector, terminal 1G and right side air bag module connector, terminal "D" (Light Green wire) for short to ground, power supply or an open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring harness is okay and DTC 32 was retrieved as a present malfunction, go to next step. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 32 was retrieved as a past malfunction, replace right air bag sensor andgo to step  7. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness andgo to step  7.
  4. Measure resistance between right air bag sensor connector terminals, "C" and "D". See Figure. If resistance is about one k/ohms, replace SAS unit and go to next step. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is not about one k/ohms, replace right side air bag sensor andgo to step  7. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Reconnect connectors to SAS unit, right side air bag sensor, clockspring, passenger-side air bag module and, right and left side air bag modules. Reconnect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. If DTC 35 is indicated, replace right side air bag sensor andgo to step  7. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DTC 35 is not indicated, go to step  7.
  6. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access SAS unit and disconnect connectors. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check air bag wiring harness between ground and SAS connector, terminal 2AA (Black wire) for short to power supply or open circuit. See Figure. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 22 was retrieved as a present malfunction, replace SAS unit and go to next step. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 22 was retrieved as a past malfunction, go to next step. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness and go to next step.
  7. Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
