DtcLeft Side AIR Bag Module Malfunction

NOTE: On vehicles equipped without side air bags, DTCs 22, 25, 26, 32, 35, or 37 may be indicated concurrently. Diagnose the problem using the smallest DTC only.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . On vehicles equipped without side air bags, go to step  4. On vehicles equipped with side air bags, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect left side air bag module connector. See Figure. Inspect air bag module short bar separator. If air bag module short bar separator is okay, and DTC 26 was retrieved as a present malfunction, go to next step. If DTC 26 was retrieved as a past malfunction, go to step  3. If air bag module short bar separator is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness andgo to step  5.
  2. Connect leads of fuel and thermometer checker to left side air bag module connector, terminals "A" and "B". See Figure. Set resistance of checker to 2 ohms. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition to ON position. If DTC 26 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC 26 is not indicated, replace side air bag module andgo to step  5. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect SAS unit connector. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check wiring harness between SAS unit connector, terminal 1A and left side air bag module connector terminal "A" (Yellow/Red wire), and between SAS unit connector, terminal 1C and left side air bag module connector, terminal "B" (Yellow/Black wire) for short to ground, power supply or an open circuit. See Figure & Figure . If wiring harness is okay and DTC 26 was retrieved as a present malfunction, replace SAS unit andgo to step  5. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 26 was retrieved as a past malfunction, replace left side air bag module andgo to step  5. See SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness andgo to step  5.
  4. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access SAS unit and disconnect connectors. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check air bag wiring harness between ground and SAS connector, terminal 2AA (Black wire) for short to power supply or open circuit. See Figure. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 22 was retrieved as a present malfunction, replace SAS unit and go to next step. If wiring harness is okay and DTC 22 was retrieved as a past malfunction, go to next step. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness and go to next step.
  5. Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
