DtcPassenger-side AIR Bag Module

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. See Figure. Inspect air bag module short bar separator. If air bag module short bar separator is okay, and if DTC 7 was retrieved as a present malfunction, go to next step. If air bag module short bar separator is okay, and if DTC 7 was retrieved as a past malfunction, go to step  3. If air bag module short bar separator is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness andgo to step  4.
  2. Connect leads of Fuel And Thermometer Checker (49 0839 285 or 49 N088 0A0) to passenger-side air bag module connector, terminals "A" (Yellow/Green wire) and "B" (Yellow wire). Set resistance of checker to 2 ohms. Connect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on. If DTC 7 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC 7 is not indicated, replace passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect SAS unit connector. See SAS UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check wiring harness between SAS unit connector, terminal 2Y and passenger-side air bag module connector, terminal "A" (Yellow/Green wire), and between SAS unit connector, terminal 2AB and passenger-side air bag module connector, terminal "B" (Yellow wire) for short to ground, power supply or an open circuit. See Figure. If wiring harness is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness between passenger-side air bag module and SAS unit and go to next step. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 7 was retrieved as a present malfunction, replace SAS unit and go to the next step. If wiring harness is okay, and DTC 7 was retrieved as a past malfunction, replace passenger-side air bag module and go to next step. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Disconnect negative battery cable. Reconnect all connectors and install previously removed components. Reconnect negative battery cable. Clear past malfunction DTCs. See CLEARING PAST MALFUNCTION DTCS  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light operates normally, trouble shooting is complete. If AIR BAG warning light does not operate normally, reconfirm malfunction symptoms.
