Pinpoint Test B : Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Refer to Transmission Controls - 8F35 for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The TFT sensor is a dual range negative temperature coefficient thermistor, a non-linear resistor where resistance decreases as the temperature increases. The dual range arrangement allows for more accurate reading at cold temperatures. The TFT is in contact with transmission fluid in the main control valve body. The TFT signal is tested for voltage short to ground, open circuit, and coherency.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PCM P0710:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the fault was not present long enough for the TCM to determine a more specific fault. If a more specific DTCs such as P0712 or P0713 are set resolve them first.
PCM P0711:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the TCM detects no change (failed to change by at least 8 degrees F) in the TFT sensor when the vehicle was driven enough that TFT should have changed.
PCM P0712:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the TCM detects a short to ground in the TFT circuitry.
PCM P0713:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit High: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the TCM detects an open in the TFT circuitry.
PCM P1711:00 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Out Of Self Test Range: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the PCM the TFT sensor voltage was in range but the indicated value was outside the expected range for self test.

    Possible Sources

    • Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals
    • TFT sensor
    • Transmission internal wiring harness frame
    • PCM

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Transmission Vehicle Harness C1575.

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: This pinpoint test is written to diagnose current DTCs retrieved during the KOEO or KOER test. Faults that only set a CMDTC may not be identified during this test.
