Pinpoint Test G : Shift Fork Actuator/ Shift Drum - Mechanical Fault
- Refer to Transmission Controls - DPS6
for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TCM uses two electric motors to shift the gears in the transmission, one for gears 1-3-5 (shift drum A) and one for gears R-2-4-6 (shift drum B). The gear shifting is done by two shift drums connected to shift motor pinions via two ideal gears. The maximum shift force is 1500N (337 lb). The motors are integrated in the TCM and work independently of each other. Excessive noise or difficulty shifting into all three gears on the same shift drum may be caused by one of the clutches hanging up or binding. If the noise symptoms are limited to one gear the issue is most likely in the shifting mechanisms related to the shifter parts that control that gear. Correct any electrical DTCs first before proceeding with the pinpoint test below.
