Pinpoint Test H : The Heated Steering Wheel Switch Status Led Is Inoperative Or Always On

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

H1 CHECK THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH STATUS LED
- Start the engine.
- Press the heated steering wheel switch. The heated steering wheel switch status LED should illuminate.
- Press the heated steering wheel switch. The heated steering wheel switch status LED should turn off.
Is the heated steering wheel switch status LED always illuminated?

Yes GO to H6

No GO to H2

H2 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER MODE INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR LOW RESISTANCE

Turn the ignition off.

Remove the heated steering wheel switch (part of Active Park Assist switch assembly). REFER to: Active Park Assist Switch .

Measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

Yes

GO to H4

GO to H3

H3 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER MODE INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

Remove the steering column shrouds to access the SASM connector. REFER to: Steering Column Shrouds .

Disconnect: SASM C226D .

Measure:

Positive Lead	Measurement / Action	Negative Lead

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

Yes

GO to H8

No	REPAIR the circuit.

H4 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER MODE INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes

GO to H5

No	REPAIR the circuit.

H5 BYPASS THE SASM (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE)

Connect Active park assist switch C3258 .

Disconnect SASM C218A .

Connect:

Ignition ON.

Does the heated steering wheel switch status LED illuminate?

Yes	REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to H8

No	REMOVE the fused jumper wire. INSTALL a new heated steering wheel switch (part of active park assist switch assembly). REFER to: Active Park Assist Switch .

H6 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL HEATER MODE INDICATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

Turn the ignition off.

Remove the steering column shrouds to access the SASM connector. REFER to: Steering Column Shrouds .

Disconnect: SASM C218D .

Turn the ignition on.

Measure:

Is there any voltage present?

Yes

GO to H7

GO to H8

H7 CHECK THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL SWITCH FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT TO VOLTAGE

Turn the ignition off.

Remove the active park assist switch assembly. REFER to: Active Park Assist Switch .

Turn the ignition on.

Measure:

Is there any voltage present?

Yes	REPAIR the circuit.

No	INSTALL a new heated steering wheel switch (part of active park assist switch assembly). REFER to: Active Park Assist Switch .

H8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SASM (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE) OPERATION

Disconnect and inspect all SASM connectors.

Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

Reconnect the SASM connectors and all other previously disconnected connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

Is the concern still present?

Yes	CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new SASM. REFER to: Steering Angle Sensor Module (SASM) .

No	The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
