Test U: Unable To Detect Venting

  1. Check For Air Spring Venting  Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP  under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. Select PIDs. On 1996 models, select ASLFSOL, ASRFSOL, ASRRSOL or ASLRSOL. On 1997 models, select RRSOL or LRSOL. On all models, press start (button 3). Command VENT: ON. If corner of vehicle lowers, go to next step. If corner of vehicle does not lower, go to step 4).
  2. Check Mounting Points  Check all height sensor mounting points. Check for proper height sensor installation and for damaged mounting points. If installation and mounting points are okay, go to next step. If installation and/or mounting points are worn or damaged, repair as necessary. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  3. Check Parameter Identification (PID) Output Change  Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. Select PID/DATA MONITOR and RECORD. On 1996 models, select LF-HGT, RF-HGT, LR-HGT or RR-HGT. On 1997 models, select LR_HGT or RR_HGT. On all models, remove appropriate height sensor from ball stud. Monitor PID and collapse and extend height sensor. If PID changes as height sensor is collapsed and extended, go to next step. If PID does not change, go to TEST D  .
  4. Check Air Line Flow  Disconnect air line from air compressor and air spring solenoid. Connect a vacuum pump to one end of disconnected line. Apply vacuum. If vacuum does not hold, reconnect line and go to next step. If vacuum holds, service pinched or obstructed air line as necessary. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  5. Check For Air Exhaust  Disconnect air line from suspect air spring solenoid. Command VENT: ON as in step 1). If air exhausts from spring, go to next step. If air does not exhaust from spring, replace air spring solenoid. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  6. Check Compressor Drier  Remove air drier from air lines and compressor. Blow compressed shop air into air line port of drier. If air freely exits drier, replace compressor assembly. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  . If air does not freely exit drier, replace drier assembly. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
