Test J: Vent Solenoid Short To Battery Or Open Circuit
NOTE:
Vent solenoid is an integral part of air compressor. If vent solenoid is defective, replace air compressor assembly.
- Check Air Compressor Connector
Disconnect air compressor connector. See Figure or Figure . Check connector for corrosion, bent pins and damaged wires. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is worn or damaged, repair as necessary and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check Vent Solenoid Resistance
Measure resistance between Pink and Gray wire at air compressor connector. If resistance is 19-24 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 19-24 ohms, replace air compressor. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION. - Check Circuit No. 430
Measure resistance between ground and Gray wire at compressor wiring harness connector. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check For Short To Voltage
Disconnect Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM). VDM is located in trunk, behind package tray. Ensure air compressor is disconnected. Measure voltage between ground and Pink wire at air compressor wiring harness connector. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is one volt or more, repair short to voltage in Pink wire between VDM and air compressor connector. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check Circuit No. 421
Install Breakout Box (007-00033), leaving VDM disconnected. Measure resistance of Pink wire between breakout box test pin No. 42 and air compressor connector. If resistance is 3 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 3 ohms, repair open in Pink wire between VDM and air compressor connector. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check Circuit No. 430
Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 60 (Gray Wire) at breakout box. If resistance 3 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check VDM
Connect VDM to breakout box. Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. Command VENT: ON. Measure voltage between test pins No. 60 (Gray wire) and No. 42 (Pink wire) at breakout box. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, replace VDM. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION. - Check Circuit Voltage
Reconnect air compressor connector. Command VENT: ON as in step 7). Measure voltage between test pins No. 60 (Gray wire) and No. 42 (Pink wire) at breakout box. If battery voltage is present, no problem is indicated at this time. Fault may be intermittent. See WIGGLE TEST and SEMI-ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES . If battery voltage is not present, replace air compressor. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE .
