Test F: Air Spring Solenoid Shorted To Ground
- Check Air Spring Solenoid Connector
Disconnect suspect air spring solenoid connector. See Figure or Figure . Check connector for corrosion, bent pins and damaged wires. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is worn or damaged, repair as necessary and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check Solenoid
Measure resistance between suspect air spring solenoid terminals. If resistance is 14-18 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 14-18 ohms, replace solenoid and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION. - Check Circuit No. 430
Disconnect Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) 60-pin connector. VDM is located in trunk, behind package tray. Install Breakout Box (007-00033), leaving VDM disconnected. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 60 (Gray Wire) at breakout box. If resistance 3 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check For Short To Ground
Ensure suspect air spring solenoid is disconnected. Measure resistance between breakout box test pin No. 60 (Gray wire) and suspect air spring solenoid test pin. See AIR SPRING SOLENOID TEST PIN IDENTIFICATION TABLE. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair short to ground in suspect air spring solenoid wire and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . - Check Voltage Supply To Solenoid
Connect VDM to breakout box. Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. On 1996 models, command LF.SOL, RF.SOL, RR.SOL or RF.SOL: ON. On 1997 models, command LRSH.SOFT or RRSH.SOFT: ON. Measure voltage between Gray wire and appropriate wire at suspect air solenoid connector. See AIR SPRING SOLENOID TEST PIN IDENTIFICATION TABLE in step 4). If voltage is 10 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace VDM and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION . - Check Solenoid
Reconnect air spring solenoid and repeatstep 5). If voltage is 10 volts or more, no problem is indicated at this time. Fault may be intermittent. See WIGGLE TEST and SEMI-ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES . If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace suspect air spring solenoid. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION .
