Test C: Height Sensor Signal Circuit Shorted To Battery

  1. Check Sensor Connector  Disconnect suspect height sensor connector. See Figure or Figure . Check connector for corrosion, bent pins and damaged wires. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is worn or damaged, repair as necessary and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  2. Check Circuit No. 430  Disconnect Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) connector. VDM is located in trunk, behind package tray. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 60 (Gray Wire) of VDM connector. If resistance 3 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  3. Check For Short To Voltage  Disconnect suspect height sensor connector. Install Breakout Box (007-00033), leaving VDM disconnected. Measure voltage between breakout box test pin No. 60 (Gray wire) and suspect height sensor test pin. See HEIGHT SENSOR TEST PIN IDENTIFICATION TABLE. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in suspect height sensor wire and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
    HEIGHT SENSOR TEST PIN IDENTIFICATION

Height Sensor Test Pin No. Wire Color
    Left Front 27 Pink/Black
    Left Rear 5 Pink/Black
    Right Front 9 Tan
    Right Rear 43 Orange/Black
  4. Check Height Sensor Voltage  Connect VDM to breakout box. Ensure air suspension switch is in ON position. Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP  under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. Command HGT POWER: ON. Measure voltage between Black/Pink wire and Pink/Black wire (LF or LR), Tan wire (RF) or Orange/Black wire (RR) at height sensor connector. If voltage is not 2.3-2.7, go to next step. If voltage is 2.3-2.7 volts, go to step 6).
  5. Check Circuit Resistance  Disconnect VDM from breakout box. Measure resistance between breakout box test pin and suspect height sensor test pin. See HEIGHT SENSOR TEST PIN IDENTIFICATION TABLE. If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 3 ohms, repair open in suspect height sensor wire and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  . If resistance is 3 ohms or less, replace VDM and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION  .
  6. Check For Internal Sensor Short  Reconnect height sensor connector. Command HGT POWER: ON as in step 4). Measure voltage between breakout box test pin No. 46 (Black/Pink wire) and suspect height sensor test pin. See HEIGHT SENSOR TEST PIN IDENTIFICATION TABLE in step 3). If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, replace suspect height sensor and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION. If voltage is 4.5 volts or less, no problem is indicated at this time. Fault may be intermittent. See WIGGLE TEST and SEMI-ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES  .
