Test B: Height Sensor Power Circuit Shorted To Battery

  1. Check Sensor Connectors  Disconnect all height sensor connectors. See Figure or Figure . Check connectors for corrosion, bent pins and damaged wires. If connectors are okay, go to next step. If connectors are worn or damaged, repair as necessary and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  2. Check Air Suspension Switch Connector  Disconnect air suspension switch connector. Switch is located on left side of trunk. See Figure or Figure . Check connector for corrosion, bent pins and damaged wires. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is worn or damaged, repair as necessary and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  3. Check Vehicle Dynamics Module Connector  Disconnect Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) connector. VDM is located in trunk, behind package tray. See Figure or Figure . Check connector for corrosion, bent pins and damaged wires. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is worn or damaged. repair as necessary and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  4. Check Circuit No. 430  Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 60 (Gray Wire) of VDM connector. If resistance is 3 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is 3 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  5. Check Circuit No. 425  Install Breakout Box (007-00033), leaving VDM disconnected. Measure voltage between test pins No. 48 (Brown/Pink wire) and No. 60 (Gray wire) at breakout box. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in Brown/Pink wire and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  6. Check Circuit No. 426  Measure voltage between terminals No. 15 (Red/Black wire) and No. 60 (Gray wire) at breakout box. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in Red/Black wire and repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  .
  7. Measure Circuit Voltage  Reconnect VDM to breakout box. Reconnect air suspension switch. Ensure switch is in ON position. Disconnect all 4 height sensor connectors. Hook-up New Generation Star (NGS) tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP  under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS. Rotate dial (on scan tester) to menu item DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK, and press trigger to select. Select VDM-VEHICLE DYNAMICS MODULE. Select ACTIVE COMMAND MODES. Select AIR SUSPENSION CONTROLS. Command HGT POWER: ON. Measure voltage between test pins No. 15 (Red/Black wire) and No. 46 (Black/Pink wire) at breakout box. If voltage is 4.8-5.2 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 4.8-5.2 volts, replace VDM. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
  8. Check Height Sensor Voltage  Ensure air suspension switch is in ON position. Command HGT POWER: ON as in step 6). Reconnect height sensors one at a time and measure voltage between breakout box test pins No. 15 (Red/Black wire) and No. 46 (Black/Pink wire). If all readings are 4.8-5.2 volts, no problem is indicated at this time. Fault may be intermittent. See WIGGLE TEST and SEMI-ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODES  . If any reading is not 4.8-5.2 volts, replace suspect height sensor. Repeat ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and PNEUMATIC TEST under DIAGNOSTIC TEST MODE  . Adjust riding height. See RIDING HEIGHT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION  .
