Installation [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly LH is necessary.

      1. Install the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly LH with the 2 bolts and nut.

        Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Temporarily tighten the bolt (A), and then fully tighten the 2 bolts and nut in the order of (B), (A) and (C).

  2. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING SPACER 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting spacer is necessary.

      1. Install the engine mounting spacer to the vehicle body with the 2 bolts.

        Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Temporarily tighten the bolt (A), and then fully tighten the 2 bolts in the order of (B) and (A).

  3. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH is necessary.

      1. Install the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH with the 2 bolts and nut.

        Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Temporarily tighten the bolt (A), and then fully tighten the 2 bolts and nut in the order of (B), (A) and (C).

      2. Connect the No. 2 ground wire to the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH with the bolt.

        Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft.lbf) 

      3. Install the radiator reserve tank assembly with the bolt and nut.

        Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf/cm, 44 in.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Tighten the bolt and nut in the order of (A) and (B).

      4. Engage the 2 clamps.
  4. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS

  5. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY FROM ENGINE STAND 
  6. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO HEAD GASKET LH

  23. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 
    HINT: 
    Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the engine assembly.

      Attachments - -
      1. Set the engine assembly with transaxle on an engine lifter.
        NOTE:
        • Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, keep the engine assembly with transaxle level.
        • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.

      *1 No. 1 Engine Hanger *2 No. 2 Engine Hanger
      1. Remove the 4 bolts, No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger.

      1. Operate the engine lifter and install the engine assembly with transaxle to the vehicle.
        WARNING:

        Do not raise the engine assembly with transaxle more than necessary. If the engine is raised excessively, the vehicle may also be lifted up.

        NOTE:
        • Make sure that the engine assembly with transaxle is clear of all wiring and hoses.
        • While raising the engine assembly with transaxle into the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.
      2. Install the front suspension member brace rear RH and front suspension member brace rear LH to the front frame assembly and vehicle body with the 2 bolts (A) and 4 bolts (B).

        Bolt (A) 

        Torque: 135 N.m (1377 kgf/cm, 100 ft.lbf) 

        Bolt (B) 

        Torque: 62 N.m (632 kgf/cm, 46 ft.lbf)

      1. Install the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly LH to the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly with the 4 bolts.

        Torque: 42 N.m (428 kgf/cm, 31 ft.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Fully tighten the 4 bolts in the order of (B), (D), (A) and (C).

      2. Apply adhesive to the 4 bolts.

        Adhesive

        Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

      3. Install the engine mounting stay LH with the 4 bolts.

        Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf/cm, 71 in.lbf) 

        NOTE:

        Temporarily tighten the bolt (A), and then fully tighten the 4 bolts in the order of (B), (C) and (A).

      4. Install the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH to the engine mounting bracket RH with the 3 bolts and nut.

        Bolt 

        Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

        Nut 

        Torque: 42 N.m (428 kgf/cm, 31 ft.lbf)

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf)

      Bolt Nut

      Bolt (A) 

      Torque: 135 N.m (1377 kgf/cm, 100 ft.lbf) 

      Bolt (B) 

      Torque: 9.5 N.m (97 kgf/cm, 84 in.lbf) 

      Nut 

      Torque: 12.5 N.m (127 kgf/cm, 9 ft.lbf) 

  24. INSTALL SUSPENSION TOWER DAMPER 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
  25. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9
  26. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
  27. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [12/2023 - ]

  28. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11
  29. CONNECT NO. 4 INVERTER COOLING HOSE AND NO. 5 INVERTER COOLING HOSE

      Direction to Return - -
      1. Return the No. 4 inverter cooling hose and No. 5 inverter cooling hose to the location in the vehicle as shown in the illustration.

      1. Connect each hose clamp as shown in the illustration.

      1. Connect the No. 2 air fuel ratio sensor connector.
      2. Engage the 2 clamps.
      3. Connect the engine wire connector.
      4. Install the exhaust sensor bracket with the bolt.

        Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf/cm, 10 ft.lbf) 

      5. Engage the 2 clamps to connect the engine wire to the exhaust sensor bracket.
  30. CONNECT NO. 6 INVERTER COOLING HOSE 
  31. INSTALL NO. 1 TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE ASSEMBLY 
  32. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER AIR DUCT 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
  33. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER HEAT INSULATOR

      Push in - -
      1. Install the engine under cover heat insulator with the 4 nuts.

        Nut (A) 

        Torque: 72 N.m (734 kgf/cm, 53 ft.lbf) 

        Nut (B) 

        Torque: 18 N.m (184 kgf/cm, 13 ft.lbf) 

      2. Install a new No. 23 traction battery bracket, then push the button to lock it.
  34. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2
  35. INSTALL FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4
  36. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

      1. Install a new exhaust pipe gasket to the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly.
      2. Install a new exhaust pipe gasket to the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly.
      3. Using a plastic hammer and wooden block, tap in the exhaust pipe gasket until its surface is flush with the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Be careful with the installation direction of the exhaust pipe gasket.
        • Do not reuse the exhaust pipe gasket.
        • Do not damage the exhaust pipe gasket.
        • Do not push in the exhaust pipe gasket by using the exhaust pipes when connecting them.

      4. Connect the front exhaust pipe assembly to the 2 No. 4 exhaust pipe supports.
      5. Install a new exhaust pipe gasket to the front exhaust pipe assembly.
      6. Install the front exhaust pipe assembly to the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly with 2 new bolts.

        Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

      7. Install the front exhaust pipe assembly to the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly with the 2 new bolts and 2 new compression springs.

        Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft.lbf)

        *1 Front Exhaust Pipe Assembly

        *3 Exhaust Pipe Gasket
        *a Space between Flanges: 8.5 mm (0.335 in.)

        After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the front exhaust pipe assembly and front exhaust pipe sub-assembly is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.

      8. Install the front exhaust pipe assembly to the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 new bolts.

        Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

  37. CONNECT NO. 1 FUEL HOSE

      1. Connect the No. 1 fuel hose to the fuel pipe.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2023 - ]

      2. Install the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp to the No. 1 fuel hose.

        Refer to PRECAUTION [12/2023 - ]

  38. CONNECT SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4
  39. CONNECT NO. 1 COOLER REFRIGERANT DISCHARGE HOSE 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3
  40. CONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 
  41. CONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE 
  42. CONNECT NO. 4 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 
  43. INSTALL INVERTER RESERVE TANK SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf/cm, 44 in.lbf) 

  44. INSTALL INVERTER WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
  45. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 

    Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft.lbf) 

  46. CONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE A 
  47. CONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE B 
  48. CONNECT HEATER WATER HOSE D 
  49. CONNECT ENGINE WIRE 

    Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft.lbf) 

  50. CONNECT FLOOR UNDER WIRE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      1. Connect the floor under wire and slide the green-colored lock of the connector as shown in the illustration to lock it securely.
        NOTE:

        Make sure that the connectors are connected securely.

  81. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Torque: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf/cm, 66 in.lbf) 

  82. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH

  84. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      1. Engage the 4 clips in the order shown in the illustration to install the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Securely engage the clips.
        • If the clips are forcibly engaged or struck with an object, they may be damaged.

    HINT: 

    When disconnecting and reconnecting the auxiliary battery, there is an automatic learning function that completes learning when the respective system is used.
