Removal [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Lexus TX 550h+ and 2024 Lexus TX 500h. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. PERFORM RESOLVER LEARNING 
    NOTE:
    • The resolver learned values cannot be initialized by disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal or removing a fuse.
    • If resolver learning is not performed after the part related has been replaced, the following DTCs may be stored and the symptoms may occur:
      • DTC output
        1. P1C5E19 (Drive Motor "B" Inverter Circuit Current Above Threshold)
        2. P0C021D (Drive Motor "B" System Circuit Current Out of Range)
        3. P0C1A00 (Drive Motor "B" Execution Torque Performance)
      • Slight vibration at a vehicle speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) or less
      • Shock and vibration during acceleration
    HINT: 
    • After replacing the EV motor control inverter assembly, write the stored resolver compensation value.
    • If the "read compensation value" cannot be performed, the resolver compensation value on the QR code label of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly will need to be checked.
    1. Store resolver compensation value (if the "read compensation value" can be performed)
      1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 2 minutes or more.
      2. Check that the air conditioning system and power outlet socket are turned off.
      3. Enter the following menus.

        Powertrain > Rear Motor Generator > Utility 

        Tester Display
        Rear Resolver Correction Value Registration
      4. Select "Save Correction Value" and read the resolver compensation value.
      5. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Check resolver compensation value on QR code label (if the "read compensation value" cannot be performed)
      1. Check the resolver compensation value on the QR code label of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.

  2. REMOVE REAR TRANSAXLE WITH MOTOR AND INVERTER ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE FRAME WIRE

  4. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER HOSE ASSEMBLY

  5. REMOVE NO. 1 INVERTER COOLING HOSE ASSEMBLY (for HEV Model)

  10. REMOVE UPPER INVERTER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    for PHEV Model:

  11. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE 
    for PHEV Model:
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25
    for 1Motor-HEV Model:
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 51
  12. REMOVE HV BATTERY CHARGER WIRE (for HEV Model) 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 52
  13. REMOVE NO. 3 HIGH VOLTAGE FLOOR UNDER WIRE (for PHEV Model) 
    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 26
  14. VERIFY THAT VOLTAGE OF INVERTER IS 0 V 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    NOTE:

    Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.

      *a Voltage Measurement Position - -
      1. Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage between the high voltage cable connector terminals.

        Standard Voltage

        0 V

        HINT: 

        • Use measuring range of DC 750 V or more on the voltmeter.
        • If it is confirmed that high-voltage is not being applied to the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly, the following procedures can be performed without using insulated tools or gloves.
      2. Apply protective tape to the area that was exposed.
        NOTE:

        Use non-residue type tape.

  15. CLEAN REAR TRANSAXLE WITH MOTOR AND INVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    To prevent foreign matter from entering the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly, make sure that the protective tape is not partially removed.

      1. Using a piece of cloth, clean the outside of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly and around the bolts.
  16. HOW TO PREVENT STATIC ELECTRICITY 
    NOTE:
    • Static electricity should be eliminated when removing/installing the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
    • Do not touch the electronic components of a circuit board.
    • Keep clothes away from electronic components.
    • Place the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly and any removed electronic components on SST (antistatic mat).

      1. Wear SST (antistatic wrist strap).
        • SST: 09890-47010 
      2. Connect the ground clip of SST (antistatic mat) securely to a ground point provided in the workshop or on a workbench (anchor bolt).
        • SST: 09890-47010 

        HINT: 

        If the ground clip cable is too short, use an extension cable.

      3. Connect the ground clip of SST (antistatic wrist strap) securely to the specified point of SST (antistatic mat).
      4. When handling internal components of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly, use only antistatic gloves or bare hands to prevent damage from static electricity or the entry of foreign matter.
  17. DRAIN COOLANT (for Intercooler)

      1. Place the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly as shown in the illustration.
      2. Connect the ground clip of SST (antistatic wrist strap) securely to the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
        • SST: 09890-47010 
      3. Remove the 2 caps from the coolant pipes and drain the coolant (for intercooler) from the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.

      1. Blow compressed air into the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly until almost all of the coolant (for intercooler) is blown out.
        NOTE:
        • Do not damage the coolant pipes.
        • Apply compressed air to the black colored coolant pipe.
      2. Use a piece of cloth as shown in the illustration to prevent the coolant (for intercooler) from spraying.
      3. Cover the air inlet port with a piece of cloth to minimize air leakage.
      4. Install the 2 caps to the coolant pipes.
  18. REMOVE INVERTER COVER

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 15 bolts.

      Correct Incorrect
      1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the inverter cover from the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Do not damage the sealing surfaces of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
        • Do not touch or allow grease or oil to contact the sealing surfaces of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly.
        • To prevent internal components of the rear transaxle with motor and inverter assembly from being damaged, do not insert the screwdriver excessively.
        • Do not remove seal packing from the sealing surface.

        • Remove any seal packing that protrudes from the sealing surface.
  19. REMOVE REAR TRANSAXLE MOTOR COMPARTMENT WIRE

      1. Push the lock at the bottom of the connector upward and disconnect the 2 connectors.

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 2 bolts and rear transaxle motor compartment wire.
  20. REMOVE REAR TRANSAXLE INVERTER COOLING PIPE

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 4 bolts and 2 rear transaxle inverter cooling pipes.

      1. Apply protective tape to the opening.
        NOTE:

        Use non-residue type tape.

  21. REMOVE EV MOTOR CONTROL INVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • Do not touch the circuit board.
    • Do not allow any foreign matter or water to enter the EV motor control inverter assembly.

      1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 3 bolts.

      1. Hold the corners of the EV motor control inverter assembly and remove it as shown in the illustration.
        NOTE:

        Place the EV motor control inverter assembly on a flat surface.

      1. Remove any metal shavings from the areas around the bolt holes where bolts were installed to separate the EV motor control inverter assembly, using tape or equivalent.
