      1. Remove the 3 spark plug tube gaskets.

        HINT: 

        Be careful not to damage the spark plug tube gaskets when removing it as the removed spark plug tube gaskets need to be used when installing a new one.

        HINT: 

        Be careful not to damage the spark plug tube gaskets when removing it as the removed spark plug tube gaskets need to be used when installing a new one.

      *a Block Bore Center Mark RH *b 30°
      1. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley set bolt.
      2. Set the crankshaft pulley set key to the block bore center mark RH (TDC/compression).

      *a Timing Mark (Camshaft Timing Intake Gear Assembly Side) *b Timing Mark (Camshaft Timing Exhaust Gear Assembly Side)
      1. for Bank 1:

        Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing gears are aligned with the timing marks of the bearing cap as shown in the illustration.

        If not, turn the crankshaft 1 revolution (360°) and align the timing marks as described above.

        NOTE:
        • Check each timing mark from a viewpoint directly inline with the center of the camshaft and the timing mark on each camshaft timing gear.
        • If the timing marks are checked from any other viewpoint, the valve timing may appear misaligned.

      1. for Bank 2:

        Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing gears are aligned with the timing marks of the bearing cap as shown in the illustration.

      1. Move the stopper plate upward to release the lock, and push the plunger deep into the No. 1 chain tensioner assembly.
      2. Move the stopper plate downward to set the lock, and insert a pin of 1.27 mm (0.0500 in.) diameter into the stopper plate's hole.
      3. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 chain tensioner assembly.

      *1 Crankshaft Pulley Set Key - -

      1. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise 10° to loosen the chain sub-assembly of the crankshaft timing sprocket.
      2. Remove the crankshaft pulley set bolt.
      3. Remove the chain sub-assembly from the crankshaft timing sprocket and place it on the crankshaft.
      4. Turn the camshaft timing gear assembly on bank 1 clockwise (approximately 70°) and set it as shown in the illustration. Be sure to loosen the chain between the banks.
      5. Remove the No. 1 chain sub-assembly.

      1. Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the No. 2 idle gear shaft, idle sprocket assembly and No. 1 idle gear shaft.

      1. Remove the 27 bolts shown in the illustration.
      2. Timing Chain Cover Assembly Side:

        Remove the 2 oil pump gaskets and 2 water pump gaskets from the timing chain cover assembly.

      3. Cylinder Block Sub-assembly Side:

        Remove the 3 oil pump gaskets from the cylinder block sub-assembly.

      1. Remove the 9 bolts and 2 nuts.
      2. Insert the blade of an oil pan seal cutter between the oil pans. Cut through the applied sealer and remove the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly.
        NOTE:

        Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the oil pans.

  74. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR

      1. Remove the 12 bolts.

        HINT: 

        Be sure to clean the bolts and stud bolts and check the threads for cracks or other damage.

      2. Remove the No. 1 oil pan sub-assembly by prying between the No. 1 oil pan sub-assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly with a screwdriver.
        NOTE:

        Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder block sub-assembly and No. 1 oil pan sub-assembly.

        HINT: 

        Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      1. Remove the small head 6 bolts and 4 bolts.
      2. Using a screwdriver, pry out the rear engine oil seal retainer.
        NOTE:

        Be careful not to damage the rear engine oil seal retainer.

        HINT: 

        Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

      3. Remove the gasket from the rear engine oil seal retainer.

      1. Place the rear engine oil seal retainer on wooden blocks.
        NOTE:

        Be careful not to damage the rear engine oil seal retainer.

      2. Using a screwdriver and a hammer, tap out the rear engine oil seal.

        HINT: 

        Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
