Removal [12/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2021 - ]

  2. REMOVE REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2021 - ]

  3. REMOVE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY LH WITH CATALYST 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2021 - ]

  4. REMOVE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY RH WITH CATALYST 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2021 - ]

  5. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 
  6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  7. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 

    See step  7

  8. REMOVE TRANSFER HEAT INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  9. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  10. DRAIN TRANSFER OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  11. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER

  12. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT

      1. Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter setting bolts from the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly.

        HINT: 

        Turn the crankshaft to a position where the drive plate and torque converter setting bolts can be removed, and remove the drive plate and torque converter setting bolts while securing the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

  16. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

  17. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

  18. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

      1. Using a transmission jack and a belt sling, etc., support the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly.
        NOTE:

        Using a belt sling, etc., secure the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly to the transmission jack to prevent it from falling.

  19. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  20. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  21. DISCONNECT TRANSFER BREATHER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • The transfer breather hose sub-assembly can be disconnected without tilting the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly.
    • When titling the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly, do not tilt it excessively to allow the cooling fan and fan shroud to contact each other.

  22. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    NOTE:
    • The wire harness can be disconnected without tilting the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly.
    • When titling the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly, do not tilt it excessively to allow the cooling fan and fan shroud to contact each other.

      Connector Bolt
      Pull Down the Lever While Pressing the Lock
      Pull Up the Lever - -
      1. Disconnect the 5 connectors.
        NOTE:
        • Disconnect the claw, pull down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
        • Disconnect the TCM connector lever while pressing the lever lock as shown in the illustration.
      2. Detach the clamp.
      3. Remove the 5 bolts and disconnect the wire harness from the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly.
  23. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSFER ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:
    • The automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly can be removed without being tilted.
    • When titling the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly, do not tilt it excessively to allow the cooling fan and fan shroud to contact each other.

      1. Remove the 11 bolts and automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Do not use excessive force to pry out the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly when separating it from the engine assembly to prevent the knock pins from being damaged.
        • When removing the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly, make sure that the oil cooler tube does not become damaged.
  24. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  25. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

      1. Remove the 8 bolts and transfer assembly from the automatic transmission assembly.
        NOTE:
        • Check the center of gravity while removing the transfer assembly.
        • Do not drop the transfer assembly.

      *a Matchmark - -
      1. Put matchmarks on the automatic transmission assembly with transfer assembly and torque converter assembly.
      2. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transmission assembly with transfer.
  29. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
