Removal [09/2015 - 05/2019]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

    Refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2014 - 09/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2017 - 05/2019]

  3. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ]

  4. REMOVE SUSPENSION TOWER DAMPER 
  5. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

  7. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  8. REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly.
  9. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  10. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  11. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR CLEANER HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  12. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - 05/2019]

  13. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    for Sport Package:

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

    except Sport Package:

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

  14. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

  15. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

  16. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID 

    See step  3

  17. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 compression springs and front exhaust pipe sub-assembly from the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly and exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 gaskets from the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly and exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.
  18. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the flywheel housing under cover.

  19. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.
      • SST: 09213-54015 
      • SST: 09330-00021

      HINT: 

      Part number of installation bolt for SST (crankshaft pulley holding tool): 91551-80650 (quantity: 2)

    2. Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts.

  20. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2016 - ]

  21. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER 
    1. Remove the clamp from the transmission breather hose sub-assembly and No. 5 water by-pass hose.

    2. Slide the 2 clips and disconnect the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      NOTE:

      Use a container to catch any fluid which flows out of the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose.

    3. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the transmission oil cooler from the front engine mounting bracket.

  22. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable from the automatic transaxle assembly.

    2. Detach the 6 wire harness clamps.
    3. Turn the lock lever and disconnect the connector from the wiring harness connector.
    4. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    5. Remove the bolt. Then disconnect the 2 clamps and wire harness from the body.

    6. Disconnect the ECM connector.
      NOTE:

      After disconnecting a connector, make sure that dirt, water and other foreign matter does not contact the connector.

      1. Raise the lever while pushing the lock on the lever and disconnect the ECM connector.
  23. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Move the shift lever to N.
    2. Remove the nut and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.

    3. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control cable bracket.
  24. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 72 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 72 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

  25. DISCONNECT RADIATOR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 28 [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 28 [09/2016 - 05/2019]

  26. INSTALL ENGINE SUPPORT BRIDGE 
    1. Install SST to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

      WARNING:

      Make sure the fuse bolt is not deformed.

      NOTE:
      • Prevent SST from contacting the vehicle body or windshield.
      • Lightly shake SST by hand to make sure it is securely installed while performing work.
      • Set the support shafts on level surfaces.
    2. Turn the threaded portion of each support shaft to adjust its height and make the SST sub beams horizontal to the ground.

    3. Connect each chain to the division bar with the shackles at the position shown in the illustration.

      *c Chain Block Assembly *d 50 mm (1.97 in.) or more
    4. Connect the shackle of the chain to the No. 1 engine hanger.
    5. Connect the 2nd link of the chain to the No. 2 engine hanger.
    6. Make sure the distance between the chain block assembly and division bar is 50 mm (1.97 in.) or more.
    7. Adjust the position of the chain block assembly so that the chain is perpendicular to the SST main beam and sub beams as shown in the illustration.

      WARNING:

      To prevent the engine with automatic transaxle assembly from falling, make sure that the dimension (A) and dimension (B) are equal.

    8. Tighten the 6 wing bolts and 2 bolts.

      Bolt 

      Torque: 30 N.m (306 kgf/cm, 22 ft.lbf) 

    9. Tighten the chain block assembly until it cannot be moved any further by hand.
      NOTE:
      • When suspending the engine with automatic transaxle assembly, do not tighten the chain block assembly more than 50 N.m (510 kgf/cm, 37 ft.lbf).
      • Do not shake the engine with automatic transaxle assembly excessively while it is being suspended.

  27. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - ]

  28. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the automatic transaxle assembly with a transmission jack.
      NOTE:
      • In order to protect the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly, place attachments on the transmission jack.
      • Make sure that the attachments and automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly are centered on the transmission jack.
      • To prevent the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly from deforming, do not place any attachments under the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly of the automatic transaxle assembly.
      • Secure the automatic transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a belt, etc. to prevent it from falling.
    2. Loosen the 9 bolts of the automatic transaxle assembly.
      NOTE:

      Do not remove the bolts.

  29. REMOVE FRONT CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 6 bolts and front crossmember sub-assembly.

  30. DISCONNECT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH 
    1. Remove the through bolt and nut and disconnect the engine mounting bracket LH.

      NOTE:

      While holding the nut in place, loosen the through bolt.

  31. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Slightly tilt the engine assembly with automatic transaxle assembly downward.

      NOTE:

      Make sure that the automatic transaxle is not tilted excessively so that the engine does not contact the vehicle.

    2. Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transaxle assembly from the engine assembly.
      NOTE:

      To prevent damage to the 2 knock pins, do not pry between the automatic transaxle assembly and engine assembly.

  32. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.
      NOTE:

      Remove the torque converter assembly from the input shaft horizontally.

  33. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the through bolt, nut and front engine mounting insulator.
      NOTE:

      While holding the nut in place, loosen the through bolt.

  34. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the through bolt and rear engine mounting insulator.

  35. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  41. REMOVE OIL COOLER UNION SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the union bolt and 2 gasket from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and oil cooler union sub-assembly from the transaxle case sub-assembly.
  42. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE ELBOW 
    1. Remove the oil cooler tube elbow from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the oil cooler tube elbow.
  43. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the transmission case plug assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  44. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY

  45. INSPECT DRIVE PLATE
