Removal [09/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSAXLE 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2014 - 09/2016] , or refer to REMOVAL [09/2016 - 05/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [05/2019 - ]

  2. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2014 - ]

  3. REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS PIPE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11 [09/2015 - ]

  4. REMOVE FUEL PUMP PROTECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [09/2015 - 09/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [09/2017 - ]

  5. REMOVE BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3 [09/2015 - 09/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3 [09/2017 - ]

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for High Pressure) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 [09/2015 - 09/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5 [09/2017 - ]

  7. REMOVE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for High Pressure) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [09/2015 - 09/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 [09/2017 - ]

  8. REMOVE NO. 2 PCV HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16 [09/2015 - ]

  9. DISCONNECT VACUUM TRANSMITTING HOSE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15 [09/2015 - ]

  10. DISCONNECT NO. 2 VACUUM TRANSMITTING HOSE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12 [09/2015 - ]

  11. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8 [10/2014 - ]

  12. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    NOTE:

    Be sure not to disconnect the PCV hose or the No. 4 PCV hose from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 camshaft position sensor from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 19 bolts and cylinder head cover sub-assembly from the camshaft housing sub-assembly.
    3. Remove the cylinder head cover gasket and No. 2 cylinder head cover gasket from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

      *2 No. 2 Cylinder Head Cover Gasket
    4. Remove the 2 gaskets from the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap and No. 2 camshaft bearing cap.

  13. REMOVE FAN AND GENERATOR V BELT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2014 - ]

  14. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [10/2014 - ]

  15. REMOVE IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and idler pulley sub-assembly from the timing chain cover assembly.

  16. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly from the timing chain cover assembly.

  17. REMOVE TRANSVERSE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and transverse engine mounting bracket from the timing chain cover assembly.

  18. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27 [09/2015 - ]

  19. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [10/2014 - ]

  20. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and 19 bolts from the timing chain cover assembly.

    2. Using a screwdriver wrapped in protective tape, remove the timing chain cover assembly by prying the points in the illustration.

      *a Protective Tape - -
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the contacting surfaces of the timing chain cover assembly, camshaft housing sub-assembly, cylinder head sub-assembly, stiffening crankcase assembly and cylinder block sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the 2 oil pump gaskets and oil hole cover gasket from the stiffening crankcase assembly.

  21. REMOVE TIMING GEAR CASE OR TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL 
    1. Using a screwdriver and wooden block, pay out the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal.

      *a Protective Tape
      *b Wooden Block
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the surface of the timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal press fit hole.
