DTC P0776: Pressure Control Solenoid "B" Performance (Shift Solenoid Valve SL2) [11/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.

      Powertrain > ECT > Trouble Codes 

    5. Read the DTCs using the Techstream.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Only DTCs P0771, P0776 and P2714 are output A
      Only DTC P0776 is output B
      P0771, P0776, P2714, and other DTCs are output C

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0771, P0776 and P2714 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

  2. CLEAR DTC AND PERFORM STALL SPEED TEST 
    1. Clear the DTCs.

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

      Powertrain > ECT > Clear DTCs 

    2. Perform the stall speed test.

      Refer to MECHANICAL SYSTEM TESTS [11/2021 - ]

      Stall speed test cannot be performed B

  3. CLEAR DTC AND PERFORM RUNNING TEST 
    1. Clear the DTCs.

      HINT: 

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

      Powertrain > ECT > Clear DTCs 

    2. Start the engine, drive the vehicle and perform the inspection.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      • Gear cannot be shifted between 1st gear and 4th gear
      • Gear can only be shifted from 4th gear to 5th gear
      • Gear cannot be shifted between 5th gear and 8th gear*
      A
      • Gear can be shifted from 1st gear to 4th gear
      • For 5th gear and above, gear shifts to neutral
      B
      Conditions other than those listed above C

      HINT: 

      *: If the gear is shifted to 5th gear or above, gear shifts will no longer be able to be performed. When performing the test again, first clear the DTCs.

  4. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR 
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SR.

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [11/2021 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal of shift solenoid valve SR connector - Shift solenoid valve SR body 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 Ω
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to the terminal of the solenoid valve connector, and a negative (-) lead to the solenoid body. Check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      OK

      Valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      Result

      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ]

  5. INSPECT TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check the transmission valve body assembly.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - ]

      OK

      There is no foreign matter on each valve and they operate smoothly.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ]

  6. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check the torque converter assembly.

      Refer to INSPECTION [11/2021 - ]

      OK

      The torque converter clutch operates normally.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ]

    REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ] 

  7. CHECK TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR TERMINAL (NC3 TERMINAL) 
    1. Disconnect the F175 transmission wire connector.

      (to Transmission Wire)
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F175-11 (NC3B) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V
    4. Turn the engine switch off.
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F175-12 (NC3O) - Body ground Always 99 to 101 Ω

  8. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE (TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NC3)) 
    1. Disconnect the transmission revolution sensor (NC3) connector.

      Refer to REMOVAL [11/2021 - ]

    2. Disconnect the F175 transmission wire connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal 1 of the transmission revolution sensor (NC3) connector - 11 (NC3B) Always Below 1 Ω
      Terminal 2 of the transmission revolution sensor (NC3) connector - 12 (NC3O) Always Below 1 Ω
      Terminal 1 of the transmission revolution sensor (NC3) connector or 11 (NC3B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      Terminal 2 of the transmission revolution sensor (NC3) connector or 12 (NC3O) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

    REPLACE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NC3). Refer to  COMPONENTS [11/2021 - ]

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM) 
    1. Disconnect the F175 transmission wire connector.
    2. Disconnect the F156 TCM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F175-11 (NC3B) - F156-19 (NC3B) Always Below 1 Ω
      F175-12 (NC3O) - F156-18 (NC3O) Always Below 1 Ω
      F175-11 (NC3B) or F156-19 (NC3B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      F175-12 (NC3O) or F156-18 (NC3O) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)

  10. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM.

    PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION. Refer to  REGISTRATION [11/2021 - ] 

  11. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SLT 
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SLT.

      (Shift Solenoid Valve SLT)

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [11/2021 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SLT - terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector. Check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      OK

      Valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      Result

  12. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL2 
    1. Remove the shift solenoid valve SL2.

      Refer to DISASSEMBLY [11/2021 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SL2 - terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω
    3. Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector. Check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.

      OK

      Valve moves and makes an operating sound.
