Removal [08/2015 - 08/2020]: Procedure

  1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2019 - 08/2021] ).

  5. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the washer hose.
    2. Remove the 8 bolts and hood sub-assembly.

      NOTE:

      If the hood support is detached from the ball joint, it becomes non-reusable. Therefore, do not detach the hood support from the ball joint unless replacing it.

  6. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  7. REMOVE LOWER FRONT BUMPER COVER 
    1. Remove the clip, 5 bolts and lower front bumper cover.
  8. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts.
    2. Unhook the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

  9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission under cover.
  10. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine under cover assembly.
  11. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH 
    1. Remove the 7 clips and front fender apron seal LH.
  12. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH 
    1. Remove the 4 clips and front fender apron seal RH.
  13. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL LH 
    1. Remove the 5 clips and front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal LH.
  14. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL RH 
    1. Remove the 5 clips and front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal RH.
  15. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL 
    1. Remove the 14 clips and upper radiator support seal.

  16. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Raise the front of the V-bank cover sub-assembly to detach the 2 pins. Then detach the 2 V-bank cover hooks from the No. 1 V-bank cover bracket and remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.

  17. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH 
    1. Remove the 4 clips and engine room side cover LH.

  18. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER

  19. DRAIN ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  20. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  21. REMOVE BATTERY 
    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the No. 2 engine wire.

    2. Remove the 2 nuts and battery hold down clamp.
    3. Remove the battery.
  22. REMOVE BATTERY TRAY 
  23. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - ] )

  24. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP AND HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector and No. 1 air hose and detach the wire harness clamp.

    2. Slide the clamp and disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the air cleaner hose.
    3. Loosen the hose clamp.
    4. Detach the 4 clamps and remove the air cleaner cap and hose.
  25. REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
  26. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case sub-assembly.

  27. REMOVE RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  28. REMOVE RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR RH

  29. REMOVE RADIATOR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  30. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  31. REMOVE FAN SHROUD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  32. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  33. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  34. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  35. REMOVE WATER PIPE AND HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Single Air Conditioning System) 
    1. Detach the clamp.

    2. Slide the 4 clamps and disconnect the 4 water hoses from the water pipe.
    3. Remove the 2 nuts and water pipe and hose sub-assembly.
  36. REMOVE WATER PIPE AND HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Dual Air Conditioning System) 
    1. Detach the clamp.

    2. Slide the 6 clamps and disconnect the 6 water hoses from the water pipe.
    3. Remove the 2 nuts and water pipe and hose sub-assembly.
  37. DISCONNECT NO. 12 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  38. DISCONNECT NO. 13 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  39. REMOVE EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  40. REMOVE EGR VALVE BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  41. DISCONNECT NO. 4 WATER BY-PASS PIPE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  42. REMOVE VENTILATION HOSE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  43. REMOVE AIR TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  44. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  45. DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL RESERVOIR TO PUMP HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  46. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  47. REMOVE VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  48. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  49. REMOVE DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and discharge hose sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the discharge hose sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.

  50. REMOVE SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and suction hose sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 O-rings from the suction hose sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.

  51. REMOVE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  52. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE STOPPER BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  53. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

  54. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

  55. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE

  66. DISCONNECT FUEL HOSE AND NO. 2 FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 fuel pipe clamps from the fuel tube connector.

    2. Disconnect the fuel hose and No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).
  67. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    1. for Engine Room LH Side:
      1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

      2. Remove the nut from the engine room relay block.

      3. Using a small screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and disconnect the engine wire from the engine room relay block.
      4. Disconnect the connector.
      5. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the No. 2 engine wire and ground wire.

      6. Detach the wire harness clamp and disconnect the No. 2 engine wire.
    2. for Engine Room RH Side:
      1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

      2. Disconnect the connector, detach the 3 clamps and disconnect the engine wire.
    3. Remove the lower instrument panel (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - 08/2019] , or refer to REMOVAL [08/2019 - 08/2021] ).
    4. Disconnect the ECM connector.
      1. Detach the clamp and disconnect the 6 connectors.

      2. Detach the grommet from the wire harness support.

      3. Detach the wire harness clamp.
      4. Detach the 4 claws to remove the wire harness support from the vehicle, and then pull out the ECM connector to remove it from the vehicle.

  68. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the oil cooler tube sub-assembly.

  69. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  71. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT

  72. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

  73. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator is necessary.

    1. Remove the bolt and rear engine mounting heat insulator.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the transfer.
  74. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.
      • SST: 09213-70011 
        1. 09213-70020
      • SST: 09330-00021

    2. Remove the 10 bolts, the rear drive plate spacer, the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly, and the crankshaft angle sensor rotor.

  75. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Install 2 engine hangers with 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)

  76. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine assembly with a chain block.

      *a 50° or less
      NOTE:

      When hanging the engine assembly, make sure to hang the engine assembly with the angle of the sling device at 50° or less. If not, the engine assembly or engine hangers may be damaged.

    2. Remove the 2 nuts and 4 bolts from the front engine mounting insulator LH and RH.

    3. Lift the engine assembly out of the vehicle carefully.
      NOTE:

      Make sure the engine assembly is clear of all wiring, hoses and cables.

    4. Remove the front engine mounting insulator LH and RH.
    5. Place the engine assembly onto a workbench.
  77. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE 
    1. Slide the 2 clamps and disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses from the No. 4 water by-pass pipe and No. 2 water by-pass pipe and remove the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.

  78. INSTALL ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the engine assembly to an engine stand with bolts.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 engine hangers.
