REMOVAL (To 08/2009): Removal

NOTE:

If automatic transmission parts are replaced, refer to Parts Replacement Compensation Table to determine if any additional operations are necessary. Refer to PRECAUTION .

  1. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 

    HINT: 

    See the steps from "Precaution" through "Remove Engine Assembly with Transaxle". Refer to REMOVAL .

  2. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  3. REMOVE RADIATOR PIPE CLAMP  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 89
  4. REMOVE NO. 1 FRONT STABILIZER BRACKET LH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  5. REMOVE NO. 1 FRONT STABILIZER BRACKET RH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 92
  6. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER BAR WITH FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
  7. REMOVE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
  8. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 95
  9. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 100
  10. REMOVE TCM  See step  10
  11. SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the 2 wire harnesses.

    2. Separate the 2 connector and 6 wire harness clamps.
  12. REMOVE TRANSFER STIFFENER PLATE RH  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 101
  13. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 11 bolts and transaxle.

      NOTE:

      To prevent damage to the knock pins, do not pry between the transaxle and engine.

  14. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 14
  15. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and front engine mounting bracket.

    2. Using an E8 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the stud bolt.
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Stud Bolt
  16. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts and 5 clamp brackets.

  17. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  18. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN HOLE (ATM) COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and speedometer driven hole (ATM) cover sub-assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the speedometer driven hole (ATM) cover sub-assembly.
  19. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter clutch assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  20. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY  See step  1
