Brake Booster: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read the "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing (See PRECAUTION ).
  2. REMOVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    HINT

    Refer to the instructions for Removal of the brake master cylinder sub-assembly (See REMOVAL )

  3. DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE 
    1. Disengage the clamp
    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the vacuum hose

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL LH  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL RETURN SPRING 
    1. Remove the brake pedal return spring.

  12. SEPARATE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER PUSH ROD CLEVIS 
    1. Remove the clip and push rod pin, then separate the push rod clevis

  13. REMOVE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 nuts and brake booster assembly
    NOTE: Do not damage the brake lines.

  14. REMOVE BRAKE BOOSTER GASKET 
    1. Remove the brake booster gasket from the brake booster assembly.
  15. REMOVE BRAKE VACUUM CHECK VALVE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the brake vacuum check valve assembly from the brake booster assembly
  16. REMOVE CHECK VALVE GROMMET 
    1. Remove the check valve grommet from the brake booster assembly
  17. REMOVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER PUSH ROD CLEVIS 
    1. Remove the lock nut and brake master cylinder push rod clevis.
