Parking Brake Assembly: Disassembly

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

      HINT:

      Do not disconnect the flexible hose from the rear disc brake caliper assembly.

  3. REMOVE REAR DISC 
    1. Release the parking brake.
    2. Put matchmarks on the rear disc and the axle hub.

    3. Remove the rear disc.

      HINT:

      If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn the shoe adjuster until the wheel turns smoothy.

  4. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT 
    1. Using needle-nose pliers, remove the 2 parking brake shoe return tension No. 1 springs.
    2. Remove the parking brake shoe strut and parking brake shoe strut compression spring.

  5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE NO. 1 SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 1 cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 2 cup.
    2. 2WD:

      Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 1 pin.

    3. Disconnect the parking brake shoe return tension No. 2 spring and remove the parking brake No. 1 shoe assembly.

  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set.
    2. Remove the parking brake shoe return tension No. 2 spring.

  7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE NO. 2 SHOE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 1 cup, parking brake shoe hold down spring and parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 2 cup.

    2. 4WD:

      Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 2 pin.

    3. Remove the parking brake No. 2 shoe assembly.
    4. Using needle-nose pliers, disconnect the parking brake No. 3 cable assembly from the parking brake cable shoe lever.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage parking brake No. 3 cable assembly.

  8. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE NO. 3 CABLE ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  9. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  10. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING NO. 2 PIN (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 2 pin from the backing plate.

  12. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for 4WD) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  14. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for 4WD) (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  15. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE HOLD DOWN SPRING NO. 1 PIN (for 4WD) 
    1. Remove the parking brake shoe hold down spring No. 1 pin from the backing plate.

  16. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the C-washer.
    2. Remove the shim and parking brake shoe lever from the parking brake No. 2 shoe assembly.
