Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION  ).
  1. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU (EXI3 TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in TERMINALS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 4WD control (4WD) switch ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 4WD control (4WD) switch ON (Transfer 2WD position) 8 to 14 V

      Result: 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      OK (When troubleshooting in accordance with the DTC TABLE.) A
      OK (When troubleshooting in accordance with the PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE.) B
      NG C

    B: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE   ) 

    C: Go to step   4 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT ECM (4WD TERMINAL VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in TERMINALS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E6-8 (4WD) - Body ground 4WD control (4WD) switch ON (Transfer 4WD position) Below 1.5 V
      E6-8 (4WD) - Body ground 4WD control (4WD) switch ON (Transfer 2WD position) 8 to 14 V

    NG: Go to step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Clear the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    3. Check if the same DTC is detected (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

    HINT:

    Reinstall the sensors, connectors, etc. and restore the previous vehicle conditions before rechecking for DTCs.

    Result: 

    RESULT REFERENCE

    DTC is output A
    DTC is not output B

    B: END 

    A: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See  OVERHAUL  ) 

  4. INSPECT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH (GND TERMINAL CONTINUITY) 
    1. Disconnect the 4WD control (4WD) switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      F11-4 (GND) - Body ground Below 1

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (GND CIRCUIT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. INSPECT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Check the select 2-4 and high-low system (See INSPECTION ).

    NG: REPLACE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Check the select 2-4 and high-low system (See INSPECTION ).

    NG: REPLACE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL SWITCH) (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the 4WD control ECU (F9) connector and 4WD control (4WD) switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      F9-8 (2-4) - F11-5 (2-4) Below 1
      F9-8 (2-4) - Body ground 10 k or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE CONTROL ECU) (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  ) 
    1. Disconnect the 4WD control ECU (F10) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - F10-18 (ADD) Below 1
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 10 k or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BETWEEN SKID CONTROL ECU AND ECM) (See ) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S28-26 (EXI3) - E6-8 (4WD) Below 1
      S28-26 (EXI3) - Body ground 10 k or higher

      Result:
