Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION  ).

HINT:

  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select "DATA LIST" mode on the hand-held tester.

    4. Check that the steering wheel turning angle value of the steering angle sensor displayed on the hand-held tester changes when turning the steering wheel.

      OK: Steering angle sensor value changes. 

      Result:

      OK (When troubleshooting in accordance with the DTC TABLE.) A
      OK (When troubleshooting in accordance with the PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE.) B
      NG C

    B: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE   ) 

    C: Go to step   3 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    2. Drive the vehicle at a speed of approximately 6 mph (10 km/h) or more for 10 seconds or more.
    3. Check if the same pending DTCs are detected (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).

      Result: 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      DTC is output A
      DTC is not output B

    B: END 

    A: Go to next step 

    REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See  OVERHAUL  ) 

  3. INSPECT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (TERMINAL VOLTAGE AND CONTINUITY) 
    1. Remove the steering wheel and the column cover lower.
    2. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in Fig 1.

      Standard: 

      TERMINALS VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      S11-1 (IG1) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 10 to 14 V
      S11-9 (BAT) - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in TERMINALS RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION TABLE .

      Standard:

      S11-2 (ESS) - Body ground Ignition switch OFF Below 1

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IG1, BAT OR ESS CIRCUIT) 

    OK: Go to next step 

    REPLACE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR (See  STEERING SENSOR  ) 

    HINT:

    • When troubleshooting in accordance with the DTC TABLE, check DTCs before replacing the steering angle sensor (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    • When troubleshooting in accordance with the PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE, be sure to follow the table before replacing the steering angle sensor (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ).
